Senior Engineer, Software – GIA Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.

📋 Description

• Develop high-performance, low-maintenance platforms and applications with zero downtime.

• Assist in transforming GEICO's insurance business and modernizing platform engineering.

• Collaborate with Distinguished Engineers and Staff Engineers to innovate and create new systems.

• Enhance existing systems and identify opportunities to leverage technical expertise.

• Lead the formulation and execution of a technical roadmap aimed at increasing product delivery speed and enhancing engineering capabilities.

• Work alongside product managers, business partners, peers, and engineering teams to address complex issues within the partner integration platform.

• Contribute to the technical roadmap and implement the software development strategy for platform components.

• Advocate for software development best practices and secure deployment processes.

• Write feature code and automated tests, raise and review pull requests, develop and manage CI/CD pipelines, and provide production support.

• Serve as a technical project lead and collaborate with partner teams and cross-disciplinary stakeholders.

• Utilize data to assess success, identify opportunities, and propose solutions.

• Support production workloads and manage incidents.

⛳️ Requirements

• Advanced proficiency in at least one modern OOP language; Go is preferred, and .NET is a plus.

• Extensive experience in designing, implementing, and maintaining highly scalable, available, and reliable production systems.

• Strong practices in Test-Driven Development, including unit, functional, integration, and load testing.

• In-depth knowledge of computer science data structures and algorithms.

• Understanding of security best practices, encompassing certificates and encryption.

• Familiarity with relational databases like MySQL and PostgreSQL.

• Familiarity with NoSQL databases such as Cassandra, MongoDB, and Redis.

• Experience in architecting, designing, and building automation, workflows, and distributed applications.

• Strong understanding of service integrations and communication standards, including gRPC and RESTful.

• Experience in building and maintaining CI/CD with Infrastructure as Code.

• Experience in resolving complex problems using a quantitative approach.

• Knowledge of software development lifecycle tools.

• Familiarity with Kubernetes, containers, and best practices in Kubernetes environments, including operators.

• Experience with Git, Jenkins, and CircleCI; knowledge of Terraform and Ansible is a bonus.

• Experience in supporting high-volume production workloads and managing incidents.

• Excellent communication skills.

• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, startup-like environment.

• 4+ years of professional experience in software development.

• 3+ years of experience in architecture and design.

• 3+ years of experience with Azure, AWS, GCP, or hybrid data centers.

• 2+ years of experience with open-source frameworks.

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience.
