Senior Engineer – Paper

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Deliver technical expertise to paper-making assets throughout Georgia-Pacific’s North American facilities.

• Diagnose the root causes of operational challenges.

• Lead and collaborate with local teams to resolve issues.

• Identify opportunities for improvement through site evaluations.

• Cultivate expertise in others while staying informed about emerging technologies.

• Collaborate with personnel at production sites to identify enhancements in processes and equipment.

• Analyze maintenance and downtime data to pinpoint equipment needing repair, replacement, or reconfiguration.

• Coordinate and lead initiatives aimed at restoring asset performance to optimized baseline conditions.

• Assist in the installation, commissioning, and optimization of new assets.

• Aid asset owners in managing and prioritizing improvement initiatives.

• Develop standardized operating and maintenance strategies in collaboration with subject matter experts and operations teams.

• Offer technical support and mentoring to engineering and operations staff.

• Help plan outage activities.

• Provide support for short-term technical requests across various facilities.

• Assist in trials of new process technologies and equipment, assessing their relevance to existing assets.

• Travel domestically on a regular basis.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 10 years of combined experience in manufacturing or engineering roles supporting paper-making operations.

• Knowledge and expertise in one or more areas such as headbox operations, yankee steam systems, hood systems, formation, sheet handling, pressure rolls, and machine clothing.

• Proficient in reading and interpreting P&IDs, layout drawings, and mechanical schematics.

• Proven ability to lead, communicate effectively, and mentor others in a manufacturing context.

• Strong communication skills with the ability to build relationships at all organizational levels.

• Willingness and ability to travel 50%-70% of the time.

• Willingness and ability to work occasional weekends, nights, and holidays as needed.

• Willingness and ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at production facilities.

• Willingness and ability to work in environments with platforms, catwalks, elevated temperatures, and varying humidity levels.

• Experience in tissue papermaking is an advantage.

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Pulp and Paper Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field is preferred.

• Demonstrated experience in team or group facilitation is preferred.

• Career advancement within Paper Operations, particularly in tissue and towel, is preferred.

• Proven ability to lead through influence and work effectively with large cross-functional teams is preferred.
