This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.
• Oversee technical evaluations and analyses for Anticipated Operational Occurrences, Anticipated Transients without Scram, Reactor Heat Balance, and Thermal Hydraulic Fuel Channel Analyses.
• Act as the subject-matter expert for BWRX-300 LOCA and containment behavior.
• Create, sustain, and implement deterministic safety analysis methods and outcomes.
• Conduct plant thermal-hydraulic evaluations for LOCA, HELB, containment response, PCCS, ICS, Fire Safe Shutdown, Annulus Pressurization Loads, and RIPD analyses.
• Establish, document, and utilize TRACG-based LOCA mass-and-energy release and fuel acceptance models.
• Develop GOTHIC-based containment response models for conservative and best-estimate scenarios.
• Provide analyses and deliverables in alignment with customer expectations, business protocols, and regulatory standards.
• Innovate or enhance automation and analysis methodologies.
• Compose technical reports, regulatory submissions, RAI responses, technical justifications, correspondence, documentation, and calculations.
• Execute technical verification of engineering outputs.
• Articulate complex technical challenges and propose solutions to internal and external clients, regulators, utilities, and collaborators.
• Partner with mechanical design, core design, licensing, systems design, civil/structural design, and other teams.
• Ensure that LOCA and containment requirements are incorporated into the evolving plant design.
• Confirm that work adheres to regulatory, customer, and quality assurance expectations.
• B.S. Degree in an Engineering Discipline (Nuclear, Mechanical, Physics or equivalent) and 8+ years of pertinent nuclear experience, including at least 5+ years in thermal-hydraulic safety analysis; OR M.S. Degree and 6+ years of relevant nuclear experience, including at least 3+ years in thermal-hydraulic safety analysis; OR Ph.D. Degree and 4+ years of relevant nuclear experience, including at least 1+ year in thermal-hydraulic safety analysis.
• Direct experience with LOCA and/or containment analysis is highly preferred.
• Ability to secure authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information, if applicable.
• Legally authorized to work in the United States.
• Experience with BWR core simulation and thermal-hydraulic systems codes.
• Familiarity with BWR LOCA, Containment, ICS/PCCS performance, HELB, Fire Safe Shutdown, Annulus Pressurization Loads, and RIPD analyses.
• Extensive understanding of BWR systems and integrated plant response.
• Knowledge of nuclear physics, thermal hydraulics, and mechanical design as they apply to BWR.
• Proficiency in two-phase thermal-hydraulic analysis techniques.
• Awareness of reactor licensing requirements and deterministic safety analysis methodologies.
• Experience with TRACG, RELAP, TRACE, and GOTHIC.
• Background in Best Estimate methodology development and CSAU applications.
• Programming skills in C#, FORTRAN, or PYTHON.
• Senior Reactor Operator Certification is advantageous.
