Senior Engineer I – Product Security, AI Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +2 more states.

📋 Description

• Oversee and manage Arthrex’s Engineering AI platforms, ensuring security, governance, cost-effectiveness, and dependable operation.

• Establish and enforce usage policies, acceptable-use standards, and access controls for Engineering AI tools.

• Implement and uphold security measures, monitor data-exposure risks, and assist with security audits and access assessments.

• Set up controls for agentic AI workflows, including agent identity, scoped permissions, and audit logging.

• Ensure AI integrations are consistent with engineering architecture and security protocols.

• Assess new AI tools and maintain consistency in connector and integration designs.

• Oversee user provisioning, repository management, platform configuration, and connector integrity.

• Monitor and optimize spending on AI platforms; create cost-visibility dashboards and spending controls.

• Track platform health, usage, adoption, model-call volumes, latency, and error rates.

• Maintain audit-ready governance, compliance, runbook, architecture, and integration documentation.

• Relay AI use-case successes and gaps to leadership and convert adoption data into narratives reflecting business impact.

• Act as the main escalation point for platform-related issues and manage relationships with vendors.

• Facilitate engineer onboarding and internal adoption by developing enablement materials.

• Design and enhance security architecture for product components and functional systems.

• Create threat scenarios and responses for identified vulnerabilities.

• Keep design history files up to date and adhere to Arthrex design-control protocols.

• Identify security-testing requirements and initiate testing procedures.

• Provide technical assistance to Regulatory, Marketing, Product Management, Software Engineering, Legal, Compliance, Privacy, and Information Security teams.

• Assist surgeon and distributor clients by clarifying security-oriented product features during sales processes.

• Report on project progress and status updates.

• Travel as necessary, which may include international travel.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience is required, ideally in platform engineering, software/ML engineering, or administration of software engineering toolchains.

• A Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in Engineering (Mechanical, Biomedical, Electrical, or Software Engineering), Computer Science, Information Security, or Cybersecurity.

• Practical experience in managing AI platforms such as Anthropic Claude, OpenAI ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Cognition Devin, Perplexity, or similar technologies.

• Experience in developing applications, analytics pipelines, or security tools utilizing agentic software development methodologies.

• Familiarity with managing SSO, RBAC, and API security for SaaS or cloud services.

• Proficient in connector and integration management using REST APIs, webhooks, Azure Logic Apps, GitHub Actions, or equivalent.

• Scripting capabilities in Python, Bash, or PowerShell.

• Understanding of system and software development processes and lifecycles.

• Knowledge of application security best practices.

• Awareness of FDA and ISO standards for medical-device development.

• Experience leading strategic discussions regarding business and technical risks.

• Skilled in developing threat scenarios and applying risk-mitigation strategies.

• Proficient in privacy-by-design principles.

• Familiarity with AI governance frameworks and responsible AI practices, including NIST AI RMF and ISO 42001 (preferred).

• Understanding of agentic AI concepts, agent identity, scoped permissions, secure agent orchestration, prompt injection vectors, runtime security, and guardrail design (preferred).

• Familiarity with LLM observability and prompt-governance tools like LangSmith, Helicone, Weights & Biases, and OpenTelemetry (preferred).

• Knowledge of AI tooling expenditure management, API usage-cost tracking, license optimization, and usage-based billing (preferred).
