This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +2 more states.
• Take ownership of the comprehensive architecture for hardware safety and power management systems, encompassing safe-state strategies, power sequencing, thermal throttling, and watchdog orchestration to achieve ASIL-B/C safety objectives.
• Develop low-level drivers and firmware for safety-critical integrated circuits such as PMICs, voltage supervisors, and thermal monitors, using bare metal and FreeRTOS platforms.
• Spearhead hardware-software safety diagnostic frameworks and incorporate TI Safety Diagnostic Library features, including LBIST, PBIST, ECC, DCC, and ESM.
• Ensure that diagnostic coverage aligns with ISO 26262 hardware fault metrics.
• Conduct thorough code reviews across hardware safety modules, promoting clean, testable, and consistent designs.
• Act as the subject matter expert for the interfaces between hardware, firmware, and safety.
• Clarify uncertainties related to PMIC sequencing, watchdog timing, thermal limits, and voltage thresholds through evidence-based technical influence.
• Guide engineers on embedded safety patterns, driver architecture, RTOS integration, ISO 26262 traceability, and functional safety reasoning.
• Collaborate effectively with hardware teams, PMIC vendors, SoC architects, safety engineers, and system integration teams.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field, along with 4+ years of relevant experience (or a Master's degree and 2+ years of relevant experience, or a PhD).
• Proficiency in embedded C/C++ with a strong grasp of advanced language features, design paradigms, and embedded constraints (no exceptions, no RTTI, careful memory management).
• Demonstrated capability to create clean abstractions and interface-based code that facilitates testing.
• Proven knowledge of ARM-based SoC architectures, particularly ARM Cortex-R5F: memory-mapped I/O, interrupt controllers (VIM), MPU configuration, cache behavior, and memory barriers.
• Experience with debugging at the register level using datasheets.
• Hands-on experience configuring MPUs and hardware-level firewalls to enforce spatial and temporal isolation in multi-core, safety-critical settings.
• Experience in constructing or significantly refactoring Hardware Abstraction Layers (HAL).
• Ability to identify root causes of complex system failures involving shared memory, RTOS task scheduling, and hardware peripherals independently.
• Skilled in recognizing low-level design challenges and representing designs through state diagrams, timing requirements, and register-level sequences.
• Advanced proficiency with embedded debugging tools (JTAG, on-target debugging, logic analyzers).
• In-depth understanding of Real-Time Operating Systems, especially FreeRTOS and/or SafeRTOS.
• Direct experience in developing drivers for safety-critical integrated circuits based on datasheets, including SPI/I2C implementation, register-level configuration, fault handling, and diagnostic integration.
• Foundational knowledge of ISO 26262 ASIL-B/C functional safety concepts.
• Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis.
• Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.
• Visa sponsorship is available for this position.
• Competitive compensation packages.
• High-quality medical, dental, and vision insurance for individuals and families.
• Health savings account with an available employer match.
• Employer-matched 401(k) retirement plan with immediate vesting.
• Employer-paid group term life insurance, along with the option to elect voluntary life insurance.
• Paid parental leave.
• Paid medical leave.
• Unlimited vacation.
• 15 paid holidays.
• Daily lunches, snacks, and beverages provided at all office locations.
• Pre-tax spending accounts for healthcare and dependent care expenses.
• Pre-tax commuter benefits.
