This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Jersey, +2 more states.
• Manage MEI’s relationships with utilities, ISOs/RTOs, and state utility regulators.
• Determine which market regulations and utility programs influence the interconnection, accreditation, and large-scale compensation of distributed storage and solar.
• Shape MEI’s influence in utility and regulatory matters and identify focal points for our efforts.
• Evaluate market and interconnection feasibility, including the timing and location for MEI's capacity provision.
• Choose which dockets, filings, rulemakings, and stakeholder processes are worthy of MEI’s attention in priority markets.
• Lead assessments of viability across potential markets to guide capital allocation decisions.
• Represent MEI in discussions with ISOs, commissions, and utility program teams.
• Collaborate on the design of utility programs and tariffs for storage and solar.
• Develop a network of external legal counsel, technical consultants, and AI tools.
• Interpret regulatory changes into commercial terms for development, commercial finance, and Digital Infrastructure Partnerships.
• Provide updates to the CDO, Executive Team, and Board on changing assumptions.
• Bachelor’s degree with coursework or experience in engineering, economics, public policy, or a related discipline.
• Over 8 years of experience in utility regulatory strategy, grid or resource planning, DER program design, market design, or regulatory consulting, including significant time within a utility, commission, or ISO/RTO, or closely advising them.
• Proven success in influencing outcomes: a tariff, program, interconnection standard, or market rule that has been shaped in part by your efforts.
• Technical proficiency in distributed storage and solar, including interconnection, hosting capacity, aggregation, and capacity accreditation, along with an understanding of how these factors impact project economics.
• Ability to write effectively for a regulatory audience and to convey the same information in straightforward terms to a commercial team.
• Self-motivated individual comfortable representing MEI independently in discussions with utility and commission counterparts, and able to maintain a respectful position when necessary.
• Willingness to travel 30–40% for engagements with utilities, commissions, and ISO/RTO.
• Preferred: Experience with PJM, including capacity market and accreditation mechanics, and knowledge of state distributed generation programs (Illinois, Maryland, Ohio, New York, Virginia).
• Preferred: Background in FERC proceedings and formal ISO/RTO stakeholder processes.
• Preferred: Familiarity with DER aggregation, DERMS, virtual power plants, and non-wires alternatives.
• Preferred: Experience in establishing new programs or functions within a large, complex organization.
• Preferred: Proficient in using artificial intelligence tools and capable of creating agents for specific tasks.
