Senior Director, Software Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Lead engineering teams in delivering document pipelines, event-driven architecture, and agentic user interface capabilities from initial build to production support.

• Coordinate platform roadmaps in collaboration with architecture and product partners.

• Execute platform contracts and standards established with Enterprise Architecture.

• Facilitate the transition of capabilities from the first production consumer to wider enterprise adoption.

• Collaborate with infrastructure and security teams on cloud, messaging, and hosting foundations.

• Establish and expand engineering teams, defining team structure, role distribution, and skill profiles.

• Recruit, hire, onboard, mentor, and nurture engineers and engineering managers.

• Foster an engineering culture centered on innovation, collaboration, accountability, continuous improvement, domain expertise, and quality.

• Shape the platform roadmap and long-term strategy in partnership with executive leadership, architecture, product management, and stakeholders.

• Implement enterprise standards for software development, architecture, and quality assurance.

• Supervise scalable, high-quality software delivery with a focus on observability, cost telemetry, and operational readiness.

• Assist in integration seams, migration paths, and fallback handling for existing systems.

• Act as the engineering representative in executive and business discussions regarding progress, risks, and opportunities.

• Lead the adoption of AI-assisted engineering tools for development, testing, documentation, troubleshooting, and analysis.

• Validate AI-generated outputs to ensure correctness, security, maintainability, compliance, and business relevance.

• Enhance productivity and solution quality through AI-enabled workflows and automation.

• Create reusable prompts, workflow templates, playbooks, and AI-assisted development patterns.

• Deliver systems utilizing AI services, APIs, agents, and automation where suitable.

• Enforce policies related to AI usage, intellectual property, security, privacy, PHI handling, and Responsible AI.

• Establish peer review, validation, audit visibility, and traceability for AI-assisted solutions.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field.

• Over 12 years of software engineering experience.

• A minimum of 7 years in leadership roles managing large, distributed teams.

• Demonstrated experience delivering complex, enterprise-scale software projects on time and within budget.

• Proven experience launching at least one initiative from inception.

• Background in building engineering teams for new initiatives, including defining organization structure, rapid hiring, and delivery during team formation.

• High technical acumen with the ability to influence technical strategy.

• Expertise in software architecture, API development, system integration, cloud services, and DevOps practices.

• Experience with AI-assisted development platforms, such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar tools.

• Familiarity with prompt engineering, AI-assisted testing, and AI-enabled software delivery.

• Experience in establishing engineering operating models and agile methodologies.

• Exceptional leadership and team-building capabilities.

• Strong business acumen.

• Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.

• Ability to work from home with high-speed internet connection of over 10 Mbps.

• Must complete identity verification, comprehensive background check, in-person I-9 verification, and potentially drug screening.

• Preferred: Knowledge in the healthcare domain, FHIR, HL7v2, CDA, Domain Driven Design, identity/access control/observability patterns, production AI integrations, Azure, event-driven architectures, document processing pipelines, and operational workflow user interfaces.
