Senior Director, Security Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +5 more states.

📋 Description

• Develop and implement a comprehensive multi-year strategy for Security Engineering that aligns with business objectives, enhances customer trust, and considers risk tolerance.

• Create a prioritized portfolio with designated owners, timelines, milestones, and measurable results.

• Lead and mentor managers and senior technical leaders across various security disciplines.

• Establish operating frameworks that enhance accountability, visibility in execution, and predictability in delivery.

• Tackle missed commitments, unresolved challenges, and priority conflicts head-on.

• Construct an AI-centric roadmap for security engineering, automation, operations, and decision-making support.

• Enhance application security, cloud and platform security, detection and response capabilities, vulnerability management, and incident preparedness.

• Spearhead post-incident improvement and resilience initiatives to mitigate systemic risks.

• Collaborate with Engineering, Product, IT, GRC, Legal, Finance, and teams that engage directly with customers.

• Oversee organizational planning, budgeting, vendor strategies, headcount planning, and investment trade-offs.

• Provide guidance to executives and Board partners regarding security posture, significant risks, priorities, and investment needs.

• Formulate a clear strategy, operational model, roadmap, and measurement framework within the first year.

• Coordinate security functions around targeted business and risk priorities.

• Initiate an AI-oriented security roadmap to enhance leverage and automation.

• Foster accountability, delivery predictability, and visibility in portfolio execution.

• Enhance leadership capacity through manager development and succession planning.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 12 years of experience in security engineering or a closely related technical security field.

• More than 7 years of experience leading security teams, including managers and senior technical leaders.

• Proven experience in setting strategy and achieving outcomes across diverse security functions.

• Strong technical expertise in application security, cloud security, detection and response, automation, and vulnerability management.

• Experience in managing complex incidents, post-incident remediation, and resilience enhancements.

• Background in budget management, vendor oversight, organizational structuring, and strategic investments.

• Demonstrated history of talent development, maintaining focus, addressing delivery issues, and leading through uncertainty and change.

• Outstanding executive communication, judgment, influence, and written communication abilities.
