Senior Director, Product, Security and Privacy

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Collaborate closely with teams in Product Management, Engineering, Security, and Go-To-Market.

• Ensure that products are designed, developed, and delivered in accordance with relevant laws and aligned with risk appetite.

• Act as the primary legal advisor for product and engineering teams involved in cloud, on-premises, and hybrid solutions.

• Provide legal guidance throughout the product development lifecycle, including in areas such as feature design, data flows, APIs, integrations, and platform architecture.

• Review and influence product requirements, specifications, and launch strategies to manage legal risks proactively.

• Offer advice on the use, contributions, and licensing models of open-source software.

• Assist in ensuring compliance with open-source obligations and advise on licensing strategies for inbound and outbound engagements.

• Collaborate with engineering and security teams on governance and tooling related to open-source software.

• Provide expertise on privacy and data protection issues, including GDPR, CCPA, and global data transfer frameworks.

• Advise on privacy features embedded in products, security measures, and data management practices.

• Work in partnership with Security, Trust, and Compliance teams regarding incident responses, customer security inquiries, and audits.

• Support product-led go-to-market strategies.

• Assist in creating scalable legal frameworks to facilitate enterprise sales, self-service, and cloud operations.

• Stay informed about emerging laws and regulations impacting enterprise software, AI, data, and cloud services.

• Identify and evaluate legal risks, offering strategies for mitigation.

• Contribute to the development of internal policies, guidelines, and playbooks.

• Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leaders in product and engineering.

• Educate and empower non-legal stakeholders through training and practical guidance.

• Help scale legal processes for a rapidly growing global organization.

⛳️ Requirements

• Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent law degree; must be licensed and in good standing in at least one jurisdiction.

• Over 10 years of relevant legal experience, with a strong emphasis on product, technology, or commercial issues.

• Experience in supporting enterprise software, cloud services, or developer-centric products.

• Strong understanding of software licensing and SaaS business models.

• Comprehensive knowledge of open-source licensing concepts.

• Solid understanding of privacy and data protection frameworks.

• Ability to convey complex legal topics into clear, actionable advice for both technical and non-technical audiences.

• In-house experience in a B2B SaaS or open-source environment is preferred.

• Familiarity with database technologies, developer platforms, or infrastructure software is preferred.

• Experience with AI/ML, data platforms, or working with regulated enterprise clients is preferred.

• Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, globally distributed organization is preferred.
