Senior Director of Marketing – Communications

📋 Description

• Design and implement a comprehensive multi-year marketing and communications strategy in alignment with SAGE's strategic goals.

• Formulate growth initiatives to enhance SAGE's advocacy efforts and boost national visibility, constituent involvement, donor recruitment, earned media presence, and revenue generation.

• Participate as a member of the senior leadership team, contributing to organizational planning, institutional objectives, and change management efforts.

• Provide guidance to executive leadership on communication opportunities, reputational challenges, emerging trends, and stakeholder engagement strategies.

• Direct annual communication planning and set measurable organizational objectives.

• Champion SAGE’s brand across various channels and target audiences.

• Spearhead audience segmentation, engagement, and growth strategies informed by data, research, and feedback from constituents.

• Refine SAGE's messaging framework to accurately represent LGBTQ+ older adults and their allies.

• Create and manage executive communications for the CEO and senior management team.

• Oversee speechwriting, op-ed creation, executive messaging, and initiatives focused on thought leadership.

• Secure opportunities for speaking engagements, media coverage, conference participation, and strategic alliances.

• Lead integrated marketing campaigns that promote fundraising, advocacy, brand recognition, program participation, and special events.

• Manage content strategies across digital, social, print, video, email, web, and emerging platforms.

• Craft narratives that highlight the lived experiences of LGBTQ+ older adults and showcase mission impact.

• Collaborate with the Development team on communications related to fundraising, donor stewardship, acquisition, and retention.

• Work alongside Advocacy and National Impact teams on policy priorities and community engagement efforts.

• Design and implement national media relations, public relations, reputation management, and crisis communication strategies.

• Build relationships with journalists, editors, producers, influencers, celebrity advocates, and strategic collaborators.

• Act as the primary organizational representative for external communications, media interaction, and public messaging.

• Lead crisis communication planning, preparedness, response protocols, messaging, and stakeholder communication.

• Advise leadership on delicate issues, reputational risks, and public affairs challenges.

• Serve as the communications lead during organizational crises and as a member of the incident response team.

• Prepare and train executives and spokespersons for media interactions and public communication efforts.

• Monitor media coverage, social sentiment, and emerging issues.

• Oversee external PR agencies, crisis consultants, media partners, vendors, and contractors.

• Manage digital marketing, website strategies, social media, SEO, email marketing, marketing technology, automation, analytics, and new technologies.

• Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing communications and marketing team.

• Serve as the organizational lead for signature events such as the NYC Heritage of Pride March.

• Develop and manage the annual marketing and communications budget.

• Establish KPIs, dashboards, and performance metrics.

• Provide regular reports and strategic recommendations to executive leadership and the Board of Directors.


⛳️ Requirements

• A strong passion for SAGE’s mission and familiarity with diverse LGBTQ+ and TGNCNB communities.

• A minimum of 10–12 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in marketing, communications, public relations, brand strategy, or related fields.

• At least 5 years of experience in leading and developing high-performing teams.

• Proven track record of success in creating enterprise-wide communications strategies that enhance audience growth, engagement, awareness, and organizational outcomes.

• Experience advising senior executives and acting as a strategic communications advisor.

• Strong expertise in public relations, media relations, crisis communications, executive communications, and brand management.

• Demonstrated ability to navigate sensitive organizational, political, advocacy, and stakeholder matters while maintaining trust and credibility with diverse audiences.

• Exceptional skills in writing, editing, storytelling, and delivering presentations.

• Experience leveraging data, research, and analytics to inform communication strategies.

• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, Business, or a related field (preferred).

• Advanced degree in communications, marketing, journalism, public policy, or a related field (preferred).

• Proficiency in Spanish (preferred).
