Senior Director of Data

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Lead and articulate a comprehensive multi-year data strategy and roadmap, encompassing migration milestones, team expansion, and investment requests.

• Upgrade the platform by transitioning from Crystal Reports and Oracle to Databricks and Power BI.

• Develop architecture, data modeling, and engineering standards for the new platform.

• Create data connectivity across the organization and implement governance, quality, and observability practices.

• Establish a data science function from the ground up, including defining its mission and recruiting initial team members.

• Foster collaborations between data science, product, and engineering to translate AI aspirations into data needs and infrastructure.

• Cultivate and expand reporting, data, and analytics engineering teams.

• Develop in-house expertise while collaborating with external partners.

• Implement modern data organization practices such as code review, documentation, and on-call protocols.

• Collaborate with company leaders to enhance operational and strategic decision-making through data.

⛳️ Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, or data leadership roles.

• 4+ years of experience managing teams.

• Proven track record of developing personnel through significant transformations.

• Experience in leading migrations from legacy to modern data platforms.

• Hands-on or architectural experience with Databricks and Power BI, or a similar modern cloud data/BI stack.

• Experience in building or scaling a data science or analytics function, including the recruitment of initial team members.

• Strong foundational knowledge in data architecture, data modeling, and data governance.

• Ability to manage external partners while enhancing in-house capabilities.

• Excellent communication skills; adept at presenting data strategies and trade-offs to senior and executive stakeholders.

• Bonus: Familiarity with Crystal Reports or Oracle, data infrastructure for ML/AI features, or engagement with product-led/SaaS organizations with data governance experience, particularly in HR or healthcare.
