This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Establish the strategic vision for actuarial science, foster innovation, and generate crucial insights that enhance company performance.
• Supervise pricing, forecasting, month-end closing activities, performance tracking, explanations, processes, assumptions, accruals, and the assessment of financial experiences and trend drivers.
• Create initiatives aimed at enhancing efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
• Lead a team of actuaries while ensuring adherence to relevant Actuarial Standards of Practice.
• Facilitate team training, personal growth, and mentorship programs for analysts.
• Formulate strategy and guide teams in developing internal statistical models for bid pricing, financial forecasts, contract modeling, and ad hoc assignments.
• Hold internal stakeholders accountable for requests related to actuarial functions and the key assumptions utilized across Finance and the organization.
• Identify and influence actuarial principles and business drivers at the Senior Management level during interactions with federal and state regulators.
• Spearhead new business initiatives for the business development team at the Senior Management level when necessary.
• Ensure compliance with federal and state rate filing requirements.
• Lead collaborative opportunities where actuarial teams can contribute to corporate objectives.
• Monitor and elucidate industry trends, including federal and state regulations and sub-regulatory guidance.
• Suggest and implement strategies that impact the achievement of functional objectives.
• Clarify financial drivers for owned products and markets, including IBNR and other accruals.
• Engage with trade associations, regulators, and external stakeholders regarding policy and legislative issues.
• Provide actuarial expertise to business, government affairs, compliance, legal, and other teams concerning proposed policies, legislation, regulations, and guidance.
• Support organizational feedback, comments, and responses that reflect financial, operational, and actuarial considerations.
• Carry out other job-related responsibilities as required.
• A Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, mathematics, economics, or a related discipline is required.
• A minimum of ten (10) years of decision support, financial analysis, or actuarial experience is preferred.
• At least five (5) years of management experience is preferred.
• Strong experience with databases (SAS or Access) is preferred.
• Experience in Managed Care or healthcare is preferred.
• An Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) is required.
• A Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) is preferred.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong listening abilities and critical thinking skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and a high degree of professionalism.
• Capability to manage, develop, and inspire staff.
• Ability to engage with all management levels as well as external stakeholders.
• Outstanding problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Proficiency in reporting data, analyzing facts, and exercising sound business judgment while making recommendations.
• Ability to identify and analyze issues, draw conclusions, develop and lead processes, and communicate status and results effectively.
• Expert-level proficiency with Microsoft Suite, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Advanced knowledge of SQL, SAS, R, or other data manipulation software is preferred.
• Willingness and ability to travel up to 15% occasionally.
• Ability to work in a general office environment and sit or stand for prolonged periods.
