Senior DevOps Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ohio.

📋 Description

• Design and manage the application layer of the Azure cloud platform.

• Develop multi-region deployment strategies across Azure regions to ensure high availability and resilience.

• Operate services such as AKS, Azure Functions, Azure Service Bus, Azure API Management, and Azure Front Door.

• Build and refine the application delivery model in accordance with Azure DevOps and GitOps principles.

• Create CI/CD pipelines that include automated testing, security checks, and approval workflows.

• Implement deployment strategies that ensure zero downtime, including Blue/Green, Canary, and rolling deployments.

• Standardize branching, release models, pipeline templates, and deployment practices.

• Define and maintain Terraform Infrastructure-as-Code for Azure resources.

• Collaborate with Infrastructure teams on networking, identity, and foundational services.

• Manage application configuration through Azure App Configuration and Key Vault.

• Prevent configuration drift and maintain consistency across Dev, Test, Staging, and Production environments.

• Design regional failover strategies and ensure high availability at the application layer.

• Implement and fine-tune monitoring solutions using Azure Monitor and Application Insights.

• Establish actionable alerting mechanisms and lead root cause analysis for platform and deployment incidents.

• Enhance resilience, performance, and recovery processes.

• Create self-service templates, documentation, and best practices for engineering teams.

• Mentor teams on deployment methodologies, observability, and cloud-native practices.

• Serve as a liaison between Software Engineering and Infrastructure teams.

• Assist teams in designing scalable, deployable, and cost-effective systems.

• Integrate cost awareness into deployment strategies and architectural standards.

• Optimize the use of AKS, serverless technologies, and messaging for performance relative to cost.

• Monitor and manage cloud expenditures; mitigate waste through right-sizing, lifecycle policies, and automation.

⛳️ Requirements

• Expertise in application platform engineering specifically on Azure.

• Proven experience in designing and managing multi-region Azure application platforms.

• Familiarity with Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS).

• Experience with Azure Functions.

• Knowledge of Azure Service Bus.

• Proficiency in Azure API Management (APIM).

• Experience with Azure Front Door.

• Familiarity with Azure DevOps (ADO) and GitOps principles.

• Ability to design sophisticated CI/CD pipelines featuring automated testing, security gates, and approval workflows.

• Experience in deploying zero-downtime strategies, including Blue/Green, Canary, and rolling deployments.

• Proven track record in standardizing branching and release models.

• Experience in creating reusable pipeline templates and deployment patterns.

• Proficiency in Terraform for Azure Infrastructure-as-Code.

• Understanding of networking, identity, and foundational services that support application platforms.

• Experience with Azure App Configuration and Key Vault.

• Ability to eliminate configuration drift and maintain environment consistency.

• Experience in designing solutions for regional failover and high availability.

• Familiarity with Azure Monitor and Application Insights.

• Experience in establishing actionable alerting systems.

• Proven ability to lead root cause analysis for incidents related to platforms and deployments.

• Experience in creating self-service templates, documentation, and guidelines.

• Ability to coach teams on deployment methodologies, observability, and cloud-native practices.

• Experience in optimizing AKS, serverless, and messaging usage for cost-effective performance.

• Knowledge of cloud cost management strategies, including right-sizing, lifecycle policies, and automation.
