This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Jersey.
• Act as the technical expert for heterogeneously integrated optical modulator PICs aimed at contemporary and upcoming coherent products.
• Design or oversee related PIC functionalities, which include passive routing, couplers, splitters/combiners, polarization components, monitors, crossings, and other non-modulation elements.
• Utilize measurement data to enhance RF, optical, and electro-optic models.
• Ensure a seamless connection between simulation, layout, fabrication, and performance.
• Offer technical guidance on modulator and PIC design selections, trade-offs, reviews, and overall design strategy.
• Work collaboratively across teams on system-level limitations, reliability, multi-chip integration, packaging, and thermal issues.
• Gradually transition to non-modulator PIC initiatives that require extensive device-design knowledge.
• Ph.D. in electrical engineering, engineering physics, applied physics, photonics, or a related discipline.
• A minimum of five years of pertinent industry experience in high-speed electro-optic modulators, thin-film lithium niobate, silicon photonics, heterogeneous integration, or associated PIC technologies.
• Proficiency in electro-optic modulator physics, RF/optical co-design, traveling-wave electrodes, velocity/impedance matching, bandwidth optimization, and high-speed testing.
• Strong expertise with EM/circuit simulation tools such as HFSS and/or ADS.
• Solid understanding of optical modeling techniques like FDTD, EME, and eigenmode solvers.
• Capability to construct and calibrate compact models using simulation and measurement data.
• Familiarity with PIC materials, foundry processes, PDKs, layout regulations, process monitoring, and design-for-test/manufacturing.
• Ability to navigate between detailed design, technical review, prototyping, characterization, and product-oriented design completion.
• Comfortable providing project leadership and reporting as necessary while continuing to contribute technically.
