Game Design Consultant

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Design core loops, progression systems, and level layouts for scenario-based learning simulations.

• Create visual storyboards that outline narrative arcs, character backgrounds, and player choice branches.

• Develop lightweight mini-games and interactive widgets that enhance digital course content.

• Decompose simulations into reusable elements, variables, and guidelines to facilitate templated scenario creation.

• Work collaboratively with product designers, researchers, product managers, engineers, and content creators to ensure interactive concepts align with educational objectives.

• Partner with engineers to guarantee that game mechanics are effectively implemented in production versions.

• Utilize AI tools for prototyping assets and testing gameplay experience throughout the design process.

• Generate simulation design specifications, storyboards, narrative maps, playable prototypes, and engineering handoff documentation.

• Proven expertise in game design, with a portfolio demonstrating robust mechanics, systems design, and player feedback loops.

• Proficient in segmenting simulations into reusable components, variables, and rule sets to aid in scenario templating.

• Exceptional visual storytelling and storyboarding skills, capable of transforming complex concepts into narrative arcs and branching paths.

• Comfortable transitioning between high-level mechanics design, hands-on grayboxing, and narrative development as an independent contributor.

• Familiarity with engines or frameworks (e.g., Unity, Phaser, PixiJS, WebGL) adequate for handing off specifications to an engineering team.

• Experience leveraging AI generation tools to enhance design workflows.

• Background in EdTech or product development with a focus on education.

• Enthusiasm for converting abstract ideas into engaging, rewarding gameplay experiences.
