This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona, +19 more states.
β’ Oversee the planning and implementation of SQL Server modernization on EC2.
β’ Transition to AWS RDS and/or perform upgrades from SQL Server 2016, including testing for compatibility and upgrades.
β’ Evaluate, migrate, and manage SSIS ETL packages and SSRS reports.
β’ Re-platform ETL and reporting to AWS-native solutions like AWS Glue and DMS, or choose to retain and upgrade them on SQL Server EC2.
β’ Facilitate database cost efficiency through instance right-sizing, Reserved Instance assessments, storage tiering, and reduction of licensing costs.
β’ Enhance the skills of the Hospice SQL DBA team in AWS database operations, RDS management, and cloud best practices.
β’ Implement database monitoring, alerting, and performance baselines utilizing Datadog and CloudWatch.
β’ Design and execute automated backup, restore, and disaster recovery protocols using AWS Backup.
β’ Conduct query optimization, index management, and capacity planning efforts.
β’ Work alongside DevOps on Terraform-driven RDS infrastructure automation.
β’ Ensure compliance with HITRUST E1 through encryption, access controls, and audit logging.
β’ Assist the Hospice application team with their database development requirements.
β’ Explore PostgreSQL and Aurora modernization possibilities for the 2027 roadmap.
β’ Over 8 years of experience in database administration.
β’ Extensive knowledge in Microsoft SQL Server (2016+) performance tuning, high availability, and disaster recovery strategies.
β’ Practical experience with SQL Server version upgrades and migrations past the end of support, including compatibility-level and upgrade testing.
β’ Strong hands-on familiarity with SSIS and SSRS.
β’ Experience in setting up, migrating, monitoring, and managing AWS RDS (SQL Server) in a Multi-AZ environment.
β’ Skilled in AWS-native ETL and data migration tools, including AWS DMS and AWS Glue, or possess a clear strategy for modernizing SSIS-based ETL in AWS.
β’ Experience in managing database migration projects.
β’ Solid understanding of backup/restore methods, point-in-time recovery, and cross-region replication techniques.
β’ Familiarity with Datadog, CloudWatch, and SQL Server DMVs.
β’ Proficient in T-SQL, stored procedures, and optimizing queries.
β’ Experience in working within regulated environments such as HIPAA, HITRUST, and SOC2.
β’ Preferred qualifications include experience with AWS Backup, AWS DMS, AWS Glue, Terraform, PostgreSQL, Aurora, Windows Server administration, AWS certifications, and mentoring.
