This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.
• Manage the daily operations across MongoDB, Amazon DocumentDB, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, and Amazon Redshift, which includes conducting health checks, monitoring capacity, managing connections, and overseeing storage expansion.
• Strategically plan and implement database version upgrades while evaluating driver compatibility, deprecated features, and modifications in query behavior related to application code.
• Identify and resolve slow queries through workload profiling and analyzing explain plans; design, create, or phase out indexes as necessary.
• Execute pre-deployment schema and data migrations, ensuring thorough pre-checks, verification processes, and tested rollbacks are in place.
• Oversee version-controlled database migrations in Git, utilizing pull requests and continuous integration with GitHub Actions.
• Address customer data requests, which encompass extracts, reports, corrections, and deletion requests, ensuring proper approvals and maintaining audit trails.
• Manage Redshift reporting access for Iceberg tables in S3, which includes external schemas, Spectrum, Glue Data Catalog, views, grants, and optimizing query performance.
• Take ownership of backup processes, point-in-time restores, and failover strategies; practice and document restoration procedures.
• Oversee database access management, which includes handling users, roles, grants, secrets rotation, and conducting access reviews for SOC 2 and ISO 27001 audits.
• Develop and fine-tune monitoring and alerting systems for query latency, replication lag, disk usage, connections, and associated costs.
• Respond to database incidents, lead root-cause analysis, and carry out necessary fixes.
• Automate repetitive DBA tasks using Python or Bash.
• Work collaboratively with Development, Customer Success, ML, and DevSecOps teams on releases, installations, and customer escalations.
• Participate in an on-call rotation.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
• Over 5 years of experience in administering production databases.
• Practical experience with MongoDB or Amazon DocumentDB in a production setting, including managing replica sets, indexing, TTL, and performing upgrades.
• Direct experience with PostgreSQL in a production environment.
• Proficient in SQL with experience using Amazon Redshift or a similar analytical query engine (Athena, Trino, Snowflake, or BigQuery).
• Proven history of executing production database upgrades, including evaluating application impacts prior to upgrades.
• Expertise in index design and query tuning based on profiler and explain plan analysis.
• Experience in conducting schema and data migrations as part of a release cycle.
• Familiarity with backup, restore, and replication processes in production, with a focus on tested recovery methods.
• Strong knowledge of AWS databases and supporting services (RDS or Aurora, DocumentDB, DynamoDB, S3, IAM, Secrets Manager, CloudWatch).
• Proficient in Python or Bash for automation tasks.
• Experience with Git and CI-based change management workflows.
• Background in handling PII and customer data while adhering to SOC 2, GDPR, or similar regulations.
• A habit of validating changes and creating runbooks.
• Willingness to be a part of an on-call rotation.
