Senior Database Architect, SQL Server / AWS

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Lead the modernization of SQL Server and architect databases on AWS.

• Take ownership of SQL Server modernization initiatives for Phase One.

• Analyze and resolve intricate OLTP ↔ OLAP replication architectures.

• Design and implement High Availability/Disaster Recovery (HA/DR) for Multi-AZ and multi-region SQL Server setups.

• Conduct assessments of T-SQL and database objects in preparation for migration.

• Formulate migration strategies utilizing AWS Database Migration Service (DMS) and Schema Conversion Tool (SCT).

• Prepare SQL Server databases for a future migration to Aurora PostgreSQL.

• Collaborate closely with infrastructure, application, and data teams regarding database architecture.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience with SQL Server architecture, specifically SQL Server on EC2 and/or RDS SQL Server.

• Proficiency in SQL Server performance tuning, troubleshooting, and database optimization.

• Experience with migrating SQL Server to AWS Aurora PostgreSQL.

• Practical knowledge of AWS DMS and Schema Conversion Tool (SCT).

• Strong skills in T-SQL, stored procedure analysis, and migrating database objects.

• Experience in designing Multi-AZ Availability Groups and multi-region SQL Server architectures.

• Familiarity with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code practices.

• Solid understanding of OLTP/OLAP replication and integration between databases and applications.

• Preferred: Experience with PostgreSQL or Aurora PostgreSQL.

• Preferred: Familiarity with Amazon Redshift.

• Preferred: Knowledge of Kinesis Firehose.

• Preferred: Experience with Amazon EKS.

• Additional experience in database-to-application integration is a plus.
