This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Portugal.
• Manage, configure, maintain, and optimize SQL Server environments hosted on VMware and Microsoft Azure.
• Carry out installation, patching, monitoring, backup and restore, as well as security and access management.
• Ensure high availability and implement disaster recovery strategies across the database infrastructure.
• Minimize operational effort through monitoring, automation, and dependable operational processes.
• Conduct root-cause analyses, post-incident evaluations, and incident learning sessions.
• Utilize PowerShell/dbatools, T-SQL, SQL Agent, Elastic Jobs, and Azure DevOps pipelines for automating recurring tasks.
• Contribute to projects related to Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, ETL, and Dynamics-associated data flows.
• Participate in database CI/CD practices.
• Assist with workloads transitioning from VMware to Azure, focusing on reliability, security, and cost efficiency.
• Collaborate closely with infrastructure, development, and business teams while supporting daily operations and the technology roadmap.
• Strong hands-on experience as a SQL Server DBA, including administration, configuration, maintenance, and performance tuning.
• Practical knowledge of SQL Server in both VMware/on-premises and Microsoft Azure environments, covering Azure SQL and/or SQL Server on Azure VMs.
• Familiarity with HA/DR solutions, including Always On Availability Groups, FCIs, log shipping, geo-replication, and backup/restore testing.
• Solid understanding of reliability engineering principles, including SLIs/SLOs, toil reduction, root-cause analysis, and post-incident reviews.
• Proficient in T-SQL, encompassing writing, troubleshooting, and optimizing queries and stored procedures.
• Experience in scripting and automation with PowerShell/dbatools, T-SQL, and/or Python.
• Knowledge of ITSM processes, including incident, service request, and change management.
• Experience working with Change Advisory Boards (CAB).
• Familiarity with using Azure DevOps (ADO) boards for task tracking and delivery.
• Ability to create and maintain technical documentation, procedures, and runbooks.
• Experience in handling sensitive or PII data and adhering to data protection standards such as GDPR and DPIA processes.
• Excellent troubleshooting and communication skills, especially during incidents and technical changes.
• Professional working proficiency in English.
