This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Take technical ownership of applied AI and data science projects throughout Sonatype.
• Oversee intricate AI initiatives from initial concept to full production.
• Provide guidance to product, engineering, security, and research teams regarding ML and GenAI methodologies.
• Spearhead research, development, and implementation of models focused on detecting malicious behavior, identifying anomalies, analyzing fraud, and other security and product applications.
• Architect and direct GenAI solutions utilizing LLMs, embeddings, retrieval-augmented generation, structured outputs, tool utilization, and agentic workflows.
• Establish practices for experimentation and evaluation, encompassing datasets, quality metrics, cross-validation, ground-truth assessments, drift monitoring, and measuring business impact.
• Define the technical strategy for building reliable, secure, scalable, maintainable, and ethically responsible AI systems.
• Design scalable APIs, services, tools, and workflows to facilitate AI adoption.
• Assess emerging AI technologies and frameworks, recommending strategies for their implementation.
• Collaborate with engineering and MLOps teams on deployment, observability, model lifecycle management, performance, and reliability.
• Mentor data scientists and technical contributors.
• Articulate AI strategies, technical trade-offs, findings, and recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Collaborate with data governance, security, and legal teams on privacy, security, ethical, and responsible AI practices.
• Over 7 years of practical experience in applied data science, machine learning, AI engineering, or AI research.
• A degree in Computer Science or a related technical field is highly preferred.
• Strong proficiency in Python.
• Hands-on experience with Databricks, LLM APIs, and scikit-learn.
• Proven experience in developing and deploying ML or GenAI applications from prototype to practical workflows.
• Extensive familiarity with OpenAI, Anthropic/Claude, Hugging Face, and open-weight models.
• Capability to design LLM applications utilizing prompting, context management, structured outputs, retrieval, and tool usage.
• Experience with orchestration frameworks such as LangGraph, LangChain, Semantic Kernel, or similar.
• Background in defining quality metrics and evaluation datasets.
• Experience in handling large, complex, structured, and unstructured data.
• Proficient with Git, testing, code review, and collaborative software development practices.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Significant MLOps experience, including MLflow or similar tools, experiment tracking, reproducible pipelines, model/application versioning, CI/CD, serving, and production monitoring is advantageous.
• Experience with Databricks ML, AWS SageMaker, Azure ML, or similar managed ML platforms is a plus.
• Experience applying ML or AI in areas such as cybersecurity, fraud detection, anomaly detection, code analysis, threat intelligence, or software supply-chain security is preferred.
