Senior Data Scientist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design and implement the AI risk stratification pilot to assign risk levels to VHA AI systems.

• Develop evaluation methodologies that encompass model performance, bias and fairness, construct validity, and post-deployment monitoring.

• Create and validate preregistered cost-benefit analyses for assessing the value of deployed AI.

• Offer technical guidance to five field pilot partnerships regarding model selection, data readiness, cohort construction, and evaluation design.

• Perform quantitative assessments of pilot outcomes for program evaluation deliverables.

• Assist with AI oversight evaluations by providing analytical evidence and participate in VHA governance working sessions at least bi-monthly.

• Contribute analytical content to AI risk management playbooks, assessment guides, and training materials.

• Evaluate supervised, unsupervised, and reinforcement learning methods for VHA use cases.

• Develop and analyze healthcare data models and cohorts.

• Provide guidance on data quality, cohort definition, and synthetic data methods within a protected health information environment.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 8 years of practical experience in data science.

• A Master’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related discipline.

• Proficient in applying supervised, unsupervised, and reinforcement learning techniques.

• Experience with cloud-based analytic platforms.

• Familiarity with synthetic data models and cohorts.

• Proven experience in developing and analyzing healthcare-specific data models and cohorts.

• Must be capable of obtaining and maintaining a favorably adjudicated Tier 1 / NACI background investigation.

• Completion of VA Privacy and Information Security Awareness and Rules of Behavior training (TMS #10176) is required prior to system access and annually thereafter.

• Must have authorization to work in the United States.

• All work must be conducted within a jurisdiction that adheres to the laws of the United States or its territories.

• Proficiency in Python and/or R along with modern machine learning tools.

• Preferred experience with VA data sources such as Corporate Data Warehouse, VistA, MedSAS, and Patient Treatment File.

• A peer-reviewed publication record in health AI or clinical informatics is valued.

• Familiarity with healthcare operations and clinical workflows is preferred.

• Knowledge of military and Veteran populations.

• Ability to rapidly comprehend complex issues.

• Exceptional attention to detail.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
