Senior Data Scientist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Lead technical support and advisory services for VHA AI Citizen Developers.

• Guide the design, development, and deployment of machine learning models and AI-driven solutions within the Veterans Health Administration ecosystem.

• Utilize supervised, unsupervised, and reinforcement learning techniques to construct and validate predictive models and analytical pipelines tailored for healthcare-specific use cases.

• Develop, maintain, and analyze synthetic data models and cohorts while ensuring the protection of Veteran data privacy.

• Facilitate model training, testing, and validation activities across VHA programs.

• Architect and implement data science workflows in cloud-based analytical environments such as AWS GovCloud and Microsoft Azure Government.

• Ensure scalability, compliance with security standards, and adherence to VA data governance policies.

• Collaborate with VHA program offices, data engineers, and IT stakeholders to define requirements and interpret analytical outcomes.

• Convert findings into strategic recommendations that support AI/ML project goals.

• Contribute to documentation, peer reviews, and continuous enhancements of AI/ML methodologies, model performance indicators, and data quality standards.

• Ensure that solutions comply with federal regulatory requirements and VA enterprise AI policies.

• Mentor and assist citizen developers in building and scaling AI solutions.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 8 years of practical experience in data science, applied machine learning, or a closely related quantitative discipline.

• Proven expertise in healthcare or life sciences data environments.

• A Master's Degree (required) in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field from an accredited institution.

• Prior experience collaborating with federal agencies, preferably the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) or other federal healthcare clients such as CMS, NIH, DoD, or HHS.

• Familiarity with federal data governance and compliance frameworks.

• Ability to obtain and maintain a VA Position of Public Trust (Medium Background Investigation) or an equivalent federal security clearance as mandated by the contract.

• Must be authorized to work in the United States; this position does not provide visa sponsorship.

• Demonstrated experience in developing and analyzing healthcare-specific data models and patient cohorts.

• Knowledge of clinical data standards such as HL7 FHIR, ICD-10, CPT coding, and EHR-sourced datasets.

• Active clearance or PIV eligibility is preferred.

• A PhD is preferred.
