Senior Data Privacy Counsel

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Australia.

📋 Description

• Serve as a senior legal advisor on matters concerning privacy, confidentiality of communications, data management, data access/retention, and lawful access issues within a telecommunications and network services context.

• Deliver clear, risk-based guidance to stakeholders in privacy, regulatory compliance, enforcement, and related fields regarding applicable laws and regulatory expectations.

• Take the lead or assist in the creation and enhancement of policies, guidance documents, and contractual terms related to privacy, confidentiality, information security, and regulatory compliance.

• Provide support in managing incidents and issues when privacy or confidentiality challenges arise.

• Collaborate closely with technical, operational, and security teams to ensure that products, services, and projects adhere to legal and regulatory standards.

• Keep stakeholders updated on important legal and regulatory changes.

⛳️ Requirements

• Must be admitted to practice as a solicitor in Australia.

• 7–15 years of post-qualification experience (PQE).

• Extensive post-qualification experience in privacy law.

• Proven experience providing advice under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

• Familiarity with the telecommunications-specific privacy framework and interception/access limitations, including Part 13 and related interception/access legislation; this is considered advantageous.

• Relevant experience in-house or as a secondee in telecommunications, network services, or another highly regulated technology sector, or equivalent experience from private practice is required.

• Demonstrated capability to exercise sound judgment and effectively influence decision-makers at all organizational levels.
