Senior Data Engineer – Azure, Snowflake, DevOps

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Poland.

📋 Description

• Design, construct, and manage Airflow or comparable data pipelines within Azure and Snowflake, transitioning from a legacy ETL platform.

• Transform injury-risk and pricing ML/scoring workflows from Jupyter notebooks into dependable scheduled pipelines with seasonal retraining cycles.

• Ingest and oversee third-party sports data feeds, such as Sportradar, and internal application databases.

• Develop and sustain bordereau reporting outputs for insurance carriers and partners.

• Take ownership of DevOps for the data platform, encompassing Azure infrastructure, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD), monitoring, secrets management, and access control.

• Assist in the migration from AWS to Azure and optimize infrastructure costs.

• Collaborate closely with client stakeholders and external vendor engineering teams across various parallel, mostly asynchronous workstreams.

• Contribute to related Java services, frontend development, reporting, and data-platform tasks as necessary.

• Senior-level experience in data engineering.

• Proficient in Python and SQL.

• Strong knowledge of data modeling.

• Practical experience with modern orchestration tools such as Prefect, Airflow, or Dagster.

• Extensive hands-on experience with Azure data services, storage, compute, networking, and identity solutions.

• Confidence in managing production workloads on Azure.

• Experience with Snowflake or an alternative cloud data warehouse.

• DevOps expertise for data platforms, including Docker, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code using Terraform or similar tools, monitoring, and alerting.

• AI-native working style utilizing tools like Claude and Cursor as integral parts of delivery.

• Willingness to engage in tasks beyond data engineering, including Java services, frontend modifications, and resolving infrastructure issues.

• Capability to define ambiguous requests, suggest solutions, and execute deliverables with minimal supervision.

• Proficient in English with clear and proactive communication with non-technical stakeholders.

• Experience in cloud migration is advantageous.

• Background in insurance, financial services, or regulated environments is preferred.

• Familiarity with MLOps is a plus.

• Comfortable reading Java and JavaScript/React codebases is preferred.

• Experience in taking over and stabilizing systems developed by others is preferred.
