Senior Data Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Kansas, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Create, develop, and sustain scalable enterprise data solutions, encompassing data architecture, models, pipelines, structures, and supporting processes within the Enterprise Data Platform (EDP).

• Assess intricate data sources and business needs in collaboration with stakeholders to provide secure, dependable, and efficient data solutions.

• Design, enhance, and maintain data pipelines that ingest, transform, integrate, and deliver reliable data in line with business requirements.

• Execute data quality, governance, and operational processes to guarantee that enterprise data assets are precise, consistent, secure, and well-managed.

• Offer technical guidance, troubleshooting, and escalation support for teams interacting with data within the EDP.

• Conduct root cause analysis and implement sustainable solutions for issues.

• Review and modernize data models, pipelines, and legacy processes to boost scalability, reliability, automation, maintainability, and compliance with enterprise architecture standards.

• Assess emerging technologies, refine engineering practices, and identify opportunities to enhance enterprise data capabilities.

• Lead intricate data engineering initiatives, establish and advocate engineering standards, mentor team members, and contribute to ongoing improvement across the EDP.

• Collaborate with data architects, data engineers, data stewards, business owners, project managers, stakeholders, ITG, and business units.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data analytics, data science, mathematics, statistics, information systems, or another related analytical or technical field, along with 5 or more years of relevant data engineering experience; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.

• Residency within 100 miles of the Kansas City, Missouri office is mandatory.

• Candidates must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S.

• Experience in designing, developing, and supporting enterprise data platforms, including data ingestion, transformation, modeling, integration, quality, and operational support.

• Advanced proficiency with SQL, relational databases, ETL/ELT development, data modeling, and cloud-based data technologies.

• Proven experience leading complex technical projects, making data architecture or design recommendations, and mentoring other technical team members.

• Familiarity with the software development life cycle, Agile delivery practices, and SAFe values and methodologies.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite/365.

• Knowledgeable in Amazon Web Services (AWS).

• Experience in data pipeline orchestration and automation.

• Skilled in Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL/ELT) processes.

• Understanding of CI/CD and DevOps practices.

• Experience with Git or similar source control platforms.

• Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code concepts, such as Terraform.

• Familiarity with RDBMS (Oracle, PostgreSQL).

• Experience with NoSQL databases (MongoDB / DynamoDB).

• Knowledge of Snowflake.

• Proficiency in Python.

• Strong understanding of Structured Query Language (SQL).

• Experience with MacOS.

• Familiarity with Data File Formats (JSON, Parquet, XML, likely XBRL in the near future).

• Knowledge of data modeling and dimensional modeling.

• Understanding of data warehouse and data Lakehouse concepts.

• Familiarity with secrets management concepts, such as Vault or similar tools.

• Knowledge of cloud security and IAM concepts.

• Understanding of data governance, lineage, metadata, and cataloging concepts.

• Experience in performance tuning and query optimization.

• Familiarity with data quality testing and data observability.
