Senior Data Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Provide support for PostgreSQL environments hosted on AWS utilizing Amazon RDS/Aurora.

• Deliver database and migration assistance for significant application releases, encompassing schema modifications, data corrections, rollback strategies, and deployment verification.

• Address incidents and performance issues related to databases, data pipelines, and application connectivity.

• Design, develop, and sustain data pipelines using Python, SQL, and AWS data services.

• Facilitate change data capture and streaming frameworks with AWS DMS, AWS Kinesis, Debezium, and Amazon MSK/Apache Kafka.

• Enable near-real-time data transfer from PostgreSQL to reporting schemas, data lakes, Snowflake, and Databricks.

• Create automation scripts for the movement, validation, reconciliation, and operational support of data.

• Collaborate with application, DevOps, data platform, reporting/analytics, QA, and business teams.

• Lead root-cause analysis and resolution of data quality challenges.

• Assess, design, implement, and manage environmental databases.

• Conduct analyses employing database management concepts, storage and query/retrieval techniques, statistical analyses, and programming languages.

• Formulate plans and recommendations while preparing necessary documentation.

• Adhere to project specifications regarding computer program input/output data and functionalities.

• Create tables, data visualizations, maps, and other graphical representations.

• Support the CMS Center for Program Integrity Unified Case Management system to bolster investigative capabilities against fraud, waste, and abuse.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline.

• Over 5 years of relevant experience.

• Proficient in AWS RDS/Aurora PostgreSQL.

• Advanced skills in SQL.

• Experience in Python for data engineering and automation development.

• Prior experience supporting CMS and the Unified Case Management system.

• Background in ETL/reporting processes.

• Knowledge of CDC/streaming with AWS DMS, AWS Kinesis, Debezium, and Amazon MSK/Apache Kafka.

• Familiarity with logical replication, WAL, and management of replication slots.

• Experience in designing and managing data pipelines for data ingestion, transformation, and migration.

• Proven experience with near-real-time data movement into Snowflake, Databricks, or data lakes.

• Skilled in troubleshooting performance across databases, SQL, data pipelines, and integrations.

• Experience with database scripting/support related to releases.

• Familiarity with ETL/ELT tools, orchestration/workflow automation, shell scripting, Git, and CI/CD practices.

• Experience working in Agile/Scrum or SAFe environments.

• Understanding of data governance, data quality, metadata/lineage, and reconciliation processes.

• Experience with regulated enterprise systems, such as healthcare, government, or financial sectors.

• Must have resided in the United States for at least three of the last five years.

• Availability during core hours Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm EST.

• NACI (T1) public trust requirement.

• No current security clearance required, nor is there a need to obtain one.
