Lead Backend Data Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Argentina.

📋 Description

• Create and develop scalable backend systems utilizing Java.

• Oversee the architecture and execution of distributed systems within intricate multi-service environments managing large-scale data processing.

• Design and enhance applications that are concurrent and multi-threaded.

• Construct and uphold big data pipelines and infrastructure for high-volume data ingestion, processing, and storage.

• Administer containerized workloads with Kubernetes, including deployment strategies, scaling policies, and resource management.

• Guide junior and mid-level engineers on backend best practices, system design, and performance enhancement.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to establish service contracts, APIs, and integration patterns.

• Execute observability and monitoring solutions.

• Assist with production deployments, resolve complex issues, and promote continuous improvement initiatives.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive proficiency in Java with a robust understanding of advanced language features and best practices.

• Strong expertise in concurrency patterns, multi-threading, thread synchronization (locks, barriers, mutexes), atomic operations, and volatile semantics.

• Proven practical experience in designing and implementing distributed systems at scale.

• Solid SQL skills with the capability to design and optimize database queries and schemas.

• Hands-on experience with Apache Spark and Apache Airflow for data processing and pipeline orchestration.

• Practical knowledge of Kubernetes for container orchestration and service management.

• Experience with system profiling, performance analysis, and optimization techniques.

• Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, or Loki.

• Experience with Spring Framework or other contemporary Java backend frameworks is advantageous.

• Knowledge of Kafka or event-streaming architectures is a plus.

• Familiarity with reactive programming frameworks or reactive systems design is a plus.

• Experience with Apache Pinot or similar analytical data stores is beneficial.

• Understanding of Terraform or Infrastructure as Code is a plus.

• Experience with GitLab CI, Jenkins (Groovy), or similar CI/CD tools is advantageous.

• Familiarity with GCP or other cloud platforms is a plus.

• Experience with AI-assisted development tools (GitHub Copilot, Claude, etc.) is a plus.

• Proficient in English (required for effective communication with global teams).

• 5+ years of experience in Backend Engineering or related fields such as Systems Engineering or Full-Stack Development, with proven expertise in distributed systems and multi-threaded application design.
