Senior Data Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Develop and enhance the data foundations that support customer-facing products, including predictive features, adaptive learning, and assessment insights.

• Design, create, and refine reliable, scalable data pipelines and models.

• Define the technical direction of the data platform.

• Enhance data movement among the application, warehouse, and product surfaces.

• Construct clean, well-tested, and reusable solutions utilizing Python, SQL, and dbt.

• Boost data quality, observability, and reliability.

• Collaborate with product, engineering, commercial, and education teams to comprehend challenges, develop solutions, and assess impact.

• Create models, tools, and frameworks that facilitate secure self-service data usage.

• Leverage AI tools and agents to research, prototype, and explore solutions.

• Contribute to product features, APIs, internal tools, or automation when relevant.

• Review code, share knowledge, and elevate data engineering standards.

• Mentor engineers and enhance data capabilities across the engineering team.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience in designing, building, maintaining, and scaling production data pipelines and platforms.

• Proficient in Python and SQL.

• Ability to produce clear, maintainable, and well-tested code.

• Understanding of data modeling and database architecture.

• Experience with cloud data warehouses, orchestration tools, and transformation frameworks.

• Demonstrated end-to-end ownership from discovery to implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement.

• Capacity to transform ambiguous requirements into practical, scalable solutions.

• Effective communication with both technical and non-technical colleagues.

• Confident usage of AI tools and agents.

• Familiarity with BigQuery, Airflow, and dbt, or similar modern data technologies.

• Experience with CockroachDB, Postgres, or other distributed/relational databases, including CDC or event-driven data pipelines.

• Knowledge of data visualization tools, preferably Tableau or Metabase.

• Experience enabling safe self-service data access through internal tools, analytics platforms, or LLM-powered interfaces.

• Background in supporting product analytics or developing data-driven product features.
