
Senior Credit Manager, Mid-Ticket Credit Underwriting

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois, +3 more states.
• Lead and oversee a team of approximately three to six Mid-Ticket Credit Analysts.
• Set performance standards and track quality, productivity, consistency, and service levels.
• Provide coaching, mentoring, and development opportunities for analysts through feedback, performance reviews, and development meetings.
• Ensure a consistent understanding and application of credit policies.
• Engage in the interviewing, hiring, and onboarding process for new Credit Analysts.
• Monitor workflow, turnaround times, attendance, and team activities.
• Keep senior management updated on team performance and day-to-day operations.
• Suggest modifications to credit policies based on underwriting experiences and portfolio trends.
• Confirm that credit files and post-funding requests are complete, accurate, and processed in a timely manner.
• Underwrite commercial equipment finance transactions across diverse industries, markets, and equipment types.
• Conduct customer due diligence and prepare credit memoranda, financial analyses, approval notes, and presentation materials.
• Analyze financial statements, tax returns, interim statements, and supporting schedules.
• Assess cash flow adequacy, leverage, liquidity, profitability, working capital, debt-service capacity, and credit risk.
• Evaluate qualitative factors such as competitive position, operating model, management strength, ownership structure, industry trends, and business risks.
• Determine equipment value, market pricing, depreciation, useful life, remarketing considerations, and residual risk.
• Devise transaction structures, terms, conditions, and risk ratings.
• Present credit recommendations to the Credit Committee and senior management.
• Review credit appeals, post-approval modifications, and post-funding requests.
• Make decisions on flow transactions accurately and within service expectations.
• Collaborate with Originators to collect customer information and provide updates on underwriting status.
• Partner with Sales to structure transactions that balance credit quality, customer needs, and business objectives.
• Assist Documentation and Funding with nonstandard transaction requirements.
• Support Collections with issues related to late payments, restructures, or modifications.
• Deliver credit training to Sales and other internal teams.
• Foster collaboration among Credit, Sales, Operations, Documentation, Funding, and Collections.
• A minimum of 10 years of experience in commercial credit underwriting or risk management.
• Significant hands-on underwriting experience specifically within the equipment finance sector.
• At least five years of direct leadership or management experience overseeing commercial credit professionals.
• Minimum of five years of equipment finance experience involving both new and used equipment.
• Expert knowledge of commercial credit underwriting, financial analysis, risk assessment, and equipment finance.
• Advanced capability in spreading and analyzing financial statements, tax returns, interim statements, and cash flow.
• Strong understanding of leverage, liquidity, debt-service coverage, profitability, working capital, and financial ratio analysis.
• Proven ability to coach, mentor, and develop underwriting teams.
• Sound judgment and decision-making skills in complex commercial credit scenarios.
• Experience underwriting transactions in transportation, industrial equipment, specialty vehicles, tow and recovery, manufacturing, construction, and franchise finance.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present recommendations to the Credit Committee and senior management.
• Strong organizational, planning, and time-management abilities.
• Capacity to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or a related field is preferred.
• Equivalent experience in commercial lending or equipment finance may also be considered.
