Senior Cost Estimator

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Florida, +2 more states.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of cost estimation for design projects, from initial budgeting to the preparation of construction documents.

• Act as the primary estimator on assigned multidisciplinary projects.

• Develop and oversee estimates throughout the conceptual, schematic, design development, and construction documentation stages.

• Execute quantity takeoffs directly from Revit and AutoCAD models in collaboration with BIM and design teams.

• Address discrepancies between design intent, project scope, and budget through value engineering and cost-benefit analysis.

• Prepare conceptual budgets, fee proposals, and comparative cost models for potential clients and projects.

• Write basis-of-estimate narratives, cost reports, scope clarifications, and qualifications/exclusions.

• Address Requests for Information (RFIs).

• Build and maintain the department’s unit-cost database, historical cost library, estimating standards, templates, and processes.

• Ensure estimates are aligned with code requirements, jurisdictional fees, local bidding conditions, labor rates, and material pricing.

• Review design concepts with engineering leads and project managers to ensure alignment of design intent with project budgets.

• Collaborate with engineers, project managers, clients, BIM teams, contractors, and senior leadership.

⛳️ Requirements

• 6–10 years of experience in cost estimating, general contracting, or related construction roles, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related discipline; equivalent field/trade experience is acceptable.

• A general contracting background is highly preferred, with practical field and/or estimating experience.

• Estimating experience in government and healthcare sectors is strongly preferred.

• Proven experience in benchmarking labor and material costs against historical data, vendor quotes, and subcontractor pricing.

• Proficient with estimating platforms such as RSMeans, Sage Estimating/Accubid, ConEst, WinEst, or Trade Service.

• Familiarity with takeoff tools like Bluebeam Revu, On-Screen Takeoff, or similar software.

• Adequate experience with Revit and AutoCAD to extract quantities and review MEP design documents.

• Strong computer skills, particularly with the Microsoft Suite, including Outlook and Word.

• Advanced Excel capabilities, including pivot tables, formulas, and macros.

• Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural, telecommunications, and fire protection systems as they relate to cost, constructability, and market pricing.

• Solid understanding of general contracting practices, bid processes, subcontractor scope leveling, and contractor cost coding using CSI MasterFormat.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

• Highly organized and detail-oriented.

• Strong analytical skills and strategic planning ability, with the capability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines at once.

• Discretion and reliability when handling sensitive cost and client information.

• U.S. citizenship or U.S. permanent residency is required.

• Willingness to travel up to 20% for site visits and client meetings.

• Access to reliable high-speed internet capable of supporting video conferencing, VPN, and cloud applications.

• A secure home network suitable for confidential company and client information.

• Preferred: ASPE Certified Professional Estimator (CPE), AACE Certified Estimating Professional (CEP), or similar certification.
