Senior Controls Engineer – Advanced Manufacturing

📋 Description

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams across operations, product engineering, maintenance, quality, procurement, IT, OT, EHS, and business leadership.

• Provide dependable manufacturing controls and automation solutions throughout the global supply chain.

• Create controls architectures and direct technical decision-making processes.

• Establish standards to ensure automation systems are safe, maintainable, scalable, and ready for production.

• Lead and assist in the architecture, design, programming, integration, commissioning, and optimization of control systems.

• Formulate controls concepts and specifications.

• Conduct technical reviews and aid in the execution of capital projects.

• Troubleshoot and resolve intricate system challenges.

• Promote standardization and replication of effective controls solutions across manufacturing sites.

• Oversee controls projects from initial concept and architecture to production launch.

• Program, assess, and troubleshoot PLC, HMI, motion, safety, and industrial communication applications.

• Ensure compliance with technical, safety, maintainability, and cybersecurity standards.

• Generate capital estimates, controls scopes, test plans, and technical requirements for RFQs.

• Lead or assist in vendor selection, panel and software evaluations, FAT, SAT, commissioning, and startup processes.

• Diagnose issues related to controls, networks, motion, robotics interfaces, and manufacturing data.

• Enhance systems for reliability, cycle time, diagnostics, maintainability, and production efficiency.

• Contribute to the Automation & Advanced Manufacturing roadmap, governance, and technology strategy.

• Assess emerging technologies in controls, connectivity, simulation, and AI-enabled manufacturing.

• Mentor site controls resources and provide senior technical leadership.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Controls, Automation, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, or a related field.

• Over 7 years of experience in industrial controls, automation, systems integration, or advanced manufacturing.

• Proven leadership in significant controls and capital automation projects.

• Advanced experience in PLC and HMI programming.

• Strong understanding of structured software development methodologies.

• In-depth knowledge of machine safety, motion control, robotics integration, industrial networking, instrumentation, and manufacturing processes.

• Experience in developing controls architectures, functional specifications, standards, test plans, and commissioning documentation.

• Skills in project leadership, technical mentoring, structured troubleshooting, and cross-functional collaboration.

• Willingness to travel as necessary to support enterprise manufacturing locations.

• Familiarity with Rockwell Automation ControlLogix/CompactLogix, Studio 5000, FactoryTalk, Siemens TIA Portal, S7 PLCs, WinCC, or similar platforms.

• Knowledge of EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, Modbus TCP, OPC UA, and managed switching.

• Experience with machine safety PLCs, safety relays, risk-reduction functions, and validation support.

• Background in servo systems, variable-frequency drives, coordinated motion, and precision process control.

• Experience with industrial robots, machine vision, automated material handling, and equipment integration.

• Familiarity with MES, SCADA, historians, OEE, databases, and manufacturing data collection systems.

• Involvement in FAT, SAT, commissioning, production launch, and lifecycle support.

• Lean, Six Sigma, functional safety, networking, or controls platform certification is preferred.
