Senior Controls Engineer – Advanced Manufacturing

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Collaborate with diverse teams across operations, product engineering, maintenance, quality, procurement, IT, OT, EHS, and business leadership.

• Provide dependable manufacturing controls and automation solutions throughout the global supply chain.

• Design controls architectures and direct technical decisions.

• Create standards and ensure that automation systems are safe, maintainable, scalable, and ready for production.

• Lead and assist in controls architecture, design, programming, integration, commissioning, and optimization efforts.

• Formulate controls concepts and specifications and oversee technical reviews.

• Support the execution of capital projects and troubleshoot complex system challenges.

• Promote standardization and replication of effective controls solutions across manufacturing sites.

• Manage controls projects from conception and architecture to production launch.

• Program, evaluate, and troubleshoot PLC, HMI, motion, safety, and industrial communication applications.

• Ensure compliance with technical, safety, maintainability, and cybersecurity standards.

• Prepare capital estimates, controls scopes, test plans, and technical requirements for RFQs.

• Lead or assist in vendor selection, panel and software reviews, FAT, SAT, commissioning, and startup activities.

• Diagnose intricate controls, network, motion, robotics interface, and manufacturing data challenges.

• Enhance systems for reliability, cycle time, diagnostics, maintainability, and production efficiency.

• Back the Automation & Advanced Manufacturing roadmap, governance, and technology strategy.

• Assess emerging controls, connectivity, simulation, and AI-enabled manufacturing technologies.

• Mentor site controls personnel and provide senior technical guidance.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Controls, Automation, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, or a related field.

• Over 7 years of experience in industrial controls, automation, systems integration, or advanced manufacturing.

• Proven leadership in large-scale controls and capital automation projects.

• Proficiency in advanced PLC and HMI programming.

• Solid understanding of structured software development methodologies.

• Comprehensive knowledge of machine safety, motion control, robotics integration, industrial networking, instrumentation, and manufacturing processes.

• Experience in developing controls architectures, functional specifications, standards, test plans, and commissioning documentation.

• Skills in project leadership, technical mentoring, structured troubleshooting, and cross-functional collaboration.

• Willingness to travel as necessary to support enterprise manufacturing locations.

• Familiarity with Rockwell Automation ControlLogix/CompactLogix, Studio 5000, FactoryTalk, or equivalent platforms.

• Experience with Siemens TIA Portal, S7 PLCs, WinCC, or other major industrial controls platforms.

• Knowledge of industrial networks including EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, Modbus TCP, OPC UA, and managed switching.

• Understanding of machine safety PLCs, safety relays, risk-reduction functions, and validation support.

• Experience with servo systems, variable-frequency drives, coordinated motion, and precision process control.

• Familiarity with industrial robots, machine vision, automated material handling, and equipment integration.

• Knowledge of MES, SCADA, historians, OEE, databases, and manufacturing data collection systems.

• Experience with FAT, SAT, commissioning, production launch, and lifecycle support.

• Certifications in Lean, Six Sigma, functional safety, networking, or controls platform.
