This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +1 more state.
• Oversee GiveWell’s messaging and narratives tailored for various audiences and contexts.
• Convert research findings, grantmaking activities, and concepts into clear and precise messages, frameworks, and products.
• Manage brand positioning and guidelines across different teams, communication channels, and partnership outreach.
• Collaborate with the Philanthropy team on donor communication strategies and spearhead customized donor-facing messaging.
• Direct intricate cross-functional communication initiatives, which include partnership campaigns with grantees and external collaborators.
• Provide counsel to senior leaders and teams regarding target audiences, framing, opportunities, and potential risks.
• Evaluate emerging issues and formulate organizational positions and messaging accordingly.
• Direct the strategic direction and institutional messaging for GiveWell’s website.
• Take charge of the internal communications strategy and oversee significant internal communications.
• Establish strategy, create systems, recruit and nurture talent, and expand the strategic communications function.
• Initially manage and mentor one or two team members.
• Work in conjunction with the Vice President of Communications and two other Senior Communications Officers.
• Report directly to the Vice President of Communications.
• Over 10 years of experience in developing institutional narratives and messaging, advising senior leaders, and communicating complex or technical information while leading cross-functional efforts.
• Extensive experience in managing communications within complex, high-pressure environments.
• Comprehensive ownership of communications projects from start to finish.
• Proven experience in building or significantly restructuring a team or function.
• Background in hiring, developing, and managing personnel.
• Recent hands-on communications work that you have personally produced or heavily influenced.
• Exceptional judgment in communication matters.
• Superior written and verbal communication abilities.
• Capacity to articulate complex ideas clearly and persuasively without losing rigor or nuance.
• Experience in crafting direct, factual, engaging, and effective communications.
• Intellectual curiosity with the ability to engage deeply with research and ideas.
• Experience providing counsel to executives or senior decision-makers directly.
• Desired experience or demonstrated expertise in organizational positioning, brand strategy, donor communications, web strategy, and internal communications.
• Strong alignment with GiveWell’s mission and values, which emphasize truth-seeking, transparency, and precise, thoughtful communication.
• Capability to work with minimal overlap with American working hours and key coworkers for international employment.
