This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +1 more state.
• Take charge of the editorial quality and production of GiveWell’s communications.
• Act as the senior editor, upholding GiveWell’s editorial standards.
• Develop and oversee workflows, editorial guidelines, review processes, and production systems.
• Lead the planning, prioritization, resource allocation, and dependency management for content under your purview.
• Maintain and promote GiveWell’s voice and editorial standards throughout published materials.
• Create and enhance recurring communications and reporting products.
• Generate, edit, or significantly influence complex, sensitive, and high-priority content.
• Manage the operations of website content and the publishing process.
• Collaborate with teams across GiveWell on critical projects, formats, roles, reviews, and timelines.
• Supervise the production of design, visual, and multimedia assets along with related staff and contractors.
• Initially manage and develop one or two team members, with plans to scale the function over time.
• Report directly to the Vice President of Communications while working alongside other Senior Communications Officers.
• Over 10 years of experience leading editorial and content production initiatives.
• Extensive experience in managing communications within complex, high-stakes environments.
• Proven track record in setting and maintaining editorial standards.
• Experience in managing writers and editors effectively.
• Skilled in building systems that consistently deliver high-quality work.
• Comprehensive ownership of editorial and content production tasks.
• Precise editing capabilities for complex or technical content.
• Proficient in understanding and communicating detailed data.
• Familiarity with writing, editing, design, audio, graphics, websites, and various other formats.
• Outstanding communications judgment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proven history of creating or significantly reconstructing a team or function.
• Experience in hiring, developing, and managing personnel.
• Recent hands-on excellence in producing or significantly shaping work.
• Background in creating direct, factual, engaging, and effective communications.
• Intellectual curiosity with the ability to engage deeply in research and ideas.
• Experience advising executives or other senior decision-makers directly.
• Strong alignment with GiveWell’s mission and values, emphasizing truth-seeking, transparency, and accurate communication.
