This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Develop and implement GiveWell’s strategy across various media channels, engage with thought leaders, foster online communities, host public forums, organize events, and explore other earned communication opportunities.
• Establish and nurture relationships with journalists, editors, podcast hosts, event organizers, thought leaders, subject-matter experts, and other external partners.
• Identify, create, and propose meaningful stories, events, and thought-leadership concepts.
• Manage inbound media interactions and address rapid-response situations effectively.
• Monitor emerging issues and guide GiveWell’s public response when necessary.
• Provide advisory support to leadership and prepare senior leaders and subject-matter experts for public engagements.
• Assess communication opportunities, reputational factors, and potential communication risks.
• Shape partnerships that enhance public-facing communications.
• Act as a spokesperson for GiveWell in select media interviews, events, and public forums.
• Work collaboratively with grantees and partners on press releases and media-related communications.
• Initially manage and develop one or two team members while expanding the function over time.
• Report to the Vice President of Communications and work alongside other Senior Communications Officers.
• A minimum of 10 years of experience in media relations, thought leadership, and public engagement.
• Extensive experience leading communications in complex and high-stakes environments.
• Comprehensive experience managing media and public engagement initiatives.
• Proven ability to build and lead a team or function, which includes hiring, developing, and managing personnel.
• Recent, hands-on communications work that you have personally produced or significantly influenced.
• Experience in generating clear, factual, engaging, and impactful communications.
• Capability to deeply engage with research and accurately convey data.
• Outstanding communication judgment concerning audience, context, risk, timing, and content.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience advising executives or senior decision-makers directly.
• Strong alignment with GiveWell’s mission and values, including truth-seeking, transparency, and accurate communication.
• Ability to work hours with minimal overlap with American working hours and key coworkers’ schedules.
• Willingness to participate in three week-long retreats each year and possibly undertake other domestic or international travel.
