Senior Commissioning Manager, Portfolio Delivery

📋 Description

• Provide leadership to the Senior Commissioning Project Management team through guidance, coaching, training, performance evaluation, and support.

• Set team objectives, clarify role expectations, prioritize workloads, and establish accountability.

• Recruit, onboard, develop, and mentor staff while facilitating succession planning and career advancement.

• Drive the standardization of the Sr. CPM operating model across various regions, business units, and project types.

• Maintain comprehensive visibility of commissioning schedules, milestones, readiness, risks, resource requirements, and project performance at the portfolio level.

• Ensure that all assigned projects have defined ownership, integrated commissioning plans and schedules, and effective coordination routines.

• Supervise project-level commissioning scope, communication, cross-functional collaboration, milestone management, turnover, and project closeout.

• Set consistent standards for readiness reviews, dashboards, reporting, issue tracking, documentation, turnover, and project closeout.

• Distribute assignments and workloads across regions and projects based on schedule, complexity, risk, and portfolio priorities.

• Promote the early identification and escalation of issues impacting energization, commissioning, substantial completion, contractual milestones, and customer obligations.

• Assist in resolving cross-functional, contractual, scheduling, resource, and stakeholder challenges.

• Oversee collaboration with Project Management, Operations, Preconstruction, Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Field Testing, Safety, Quality, SCADA, OT Infrastructure, and other partner teams.

• Collaborate with HV and BESS/PV Field Execution leaders to incorporate technical scope, field readiness, resource needs, and execution risks into project plans.

• Evaluate portfolio staffing requirements and resource forecasts; suggest hiring, contract support, or changes in assignments.

• Monitor portfolio performance, trends, and recurring issues; implement measures to enhance ownership, transparency, predictability, and customer confidence.

• Standardize project management processes, tools, templates, estimating and planning inputs, lessons learned, and performance reporting mechanisms.

• Ensure that safety planning, energized-work requirements, switching interfaces, and care/custody/control considerations are integrated into commissioning plans.

• Lead safety, quality, technical, and project-site support using established protocols and processes.

• Travel regularly to support project teams, facilitate regional alignment, engage with leadership, and address portfolio needs.


⛳️ Requirements

• At least 8 years of progressive experience in EPC commissioning, project management, construction management, or delivering utility-scale electrical or renewable-energy projects.

• Proven capability in leading teams and managing a multi-project or portfolio-level workload.

• Demonstrated experience in integrating commissioning activities into project schedules, milestones, budgets, and cross-functional delivery plans.

• Strong knowledge of utility-scale solar, battery energy storage, and high-voltage commissioning interfaces.

• Proven ability to identify and escalate project risks, balance competing priorities, and drive cross-functional resolutions.

• Demonstrated capability in training, mentoring, and developing project management personnel.

• Excellent organizational skills, capable of managing multiple projects, priorities, and stakeholder groups concurrently.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office and adept with scheduling, project controls, reporting, dashboard, and document-control systems.

• Exceptional communication, interpersonal, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills.

• A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or a related field is preferred; equivalent relevant experience will also be considered.

• PMP or other relevant project management certification is preferred.

• A valid driver’s license is required.

• Advanced understanding of the utility-scale commissioning lifecycle from early planning through energization, performance testing, turnover, and project closeout.

• Strong portfolio and multi-project management skills, including prioritization, workload balancing, resource forecasting, and executive-level escalation.

• In-depth knowledge of commissioning plans, integrated schedules, readiness gates, milestone logic, turnover requirements, and project reporting.

• Ability to interpret contractual obligations and translate them into clear commissioning deliverables, responsibilities, schedules, and governance.

• Proficient with project controls, P6 scheduling, dashboards, reporting systems, document-control systems, and Microsoft Office applications.

• Regular travel is necessary.

• Must be able to meet specified physical demands, including lifting over 50 pounds and working in proximity to medium- and high-voltage equipment.
