This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Pennsylvania.
• Act as a liaison between Penn National Insurance and agents.
• Serve as the relationship manager for agents, regional underwriting teams, and corporate departments.
• Oversee commercial lines agency planning and management initiatives for assigned agents.
• Collaborate with and assist Underwriters and RVPs on renewal decisions and branch initiatives for small business and mid-market.
• Underwrite mid-market new business directly.
• Propel profitable growth in commercial lines, focusing on premium volume and policy count.
• Assess the strengths and weaknesses of assigned agents and facilitate action plans for new business.
• Provide training for agents on Penn National Insurance’s commercial lines products, policies, procedures, and services.
• Develop agency forces to pre-qualify, rate, and bind profitable commercial lines business.
• Review new business quote requests for compliance with underwriting authority and company guidelines.
• Communicate underwriting decisions, techniques, policy forms, coverages, and risk acceptability.
• Maintain documentation of underwriting files, decisions, actions, and follow-up requirements.
• Build and nurture relationships with agents, underwriting teams, claims teams, and corporate departments.
• Evaluate potential agents and submit written recommendations to the Regional Vice President.
• Visit agencies to discuss underwriting issues and foster new business development.
• Monitor agency growth, profitability, compliance, and adherence to company initiatives.
• Analyze commercial lines books of business and devise profitability plans.
• Facilitate agency reviews and implement corrective measures as needed.
• Set account pricing within underwriting authority and company guidelines.
• Order and analyze loss control reports, financial reports, MVRs, and other underwriting data.
• Assess and secure facultative reinsurance when necessary.
• Contribute to the formulation of underwriting policies, procedures, and guidelines.
• Provide agency training on programs, products, services, and systems.
• Create annual marketing plans for the agency/company.
• Analyze territory profitability, premium growth, and agency representation.
• Apply, compile, manipulate, and analyze data to address business challenges.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the President-Partners Mutual or Regional Vice President.
• A four-year college degree is preferred.
• Continuing education in specialized insurance courses such as IIA, AU, CPCU, and CIC is preferred, as applicable.
• Maintenance of an active agent’s P&C license in the state of domicile is preferred.
• A minimum of five years of property/casualty commercial underwriting experience is required.
• A minimum of three years of marketing experience with a Property and Casualty carrier is preferred.
• Experience in an agency or brokerage with a strong focus on underwriting exposure/risk and marketing may be considered in lieu of carrier experience.
• Technical knowledge in underwriting commercial lines of business offered by Penn National Insurance.
• Strong oral and written communication skills for conveying highly technical information.
• Demonstrated sales, negotiation, and solution-selling skills.
• Familiarity with agency and company automation systems.
• Basic proficiency in personal computers, emphasizing the Microsoft Office Suite.
• Exceptional customer service abilities.
• Good skills in financial analysis.
• Excellent time management capabilities.
• Strong analytical skills in commercial lines underwriting.
• A valid driver’s license and ability to operate a motor vehicle are necessary.
• Willingness to travel, including overnight stays, is required.
• Ability to maintain acceptable attendance and adhere to scheduled work hours.
• Effective communication skills with both internal and external clients.
• Proficiency in presenting information to individuals and groups.
