This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Japan.
• Negotiate intricate commercial and technology agreements throughout APJ markets, encompassing SaaS, software, partnerships, services, consulting, marketing, licensing, data privacy, and AI-related contracts.
• Oversee strategic and high-priority transactions across various jurisdictions, balancing legal risks with business objectives.
• Collaborate with regional Sales leadership, internal stakeholders, and external parties to advance deals with clear legal guidance.
• Navigate specific country contracting norms, approval processes, and drafting requirements across APJ markets, including Japan.
• Provide advice on cross-border transaction structures and coordinate with external counsel when local legal support is required.
• Evaluate contractual risks and offer practical recommendations, including escalation paths and alternative terms.
• Create and uphold APJ-oriented templates, playbooks, policies, and supporting documentation to enhance consistency in contracting.
• Educate contract managers and regional Sales team members on contracting practices, legal updates, and daily decision-making across the region.
• Must be qualified to practice law through a J.D. or equivalent legal credential, holding active bar membership or a license in a relevant jurisdiction.
• Proven experience in commercial and technology transactions across APJ markets, whether within a law firm, in-house legal team, or both.
• Proficient in negotiating complex agreements across multiple APJ jurisdictions, with knowledge of Japan's contracting practices.
• Comfortable managing cross-border transactions that involve diverse legal systems and coordinating with external counsel.
• Capable of identifying legal risks, clearly articulating tradeoffs, and providing business-centric guidance in various regulatory contexts.
• Experienced in enhancing or developing contract templates, playbooks, and processes that ensure consistent execution across teams and markets.
• Effective in fostering trusted relationships with Sales and cross-functional partners in a remote, globally distributed setting.
• Willing to leverage transferable experience and language skills relevant to APJ markets; working proficiency in an APJ language such as Japanese is advantageous but not mandatory.
