This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Act as a reliable legal advisor for Tides staff, executive leadership, senior personnel, and the Legal, Risk & Compliance team.
• Provide guidance on nonprofit and corporate issues, along with organizational policies and procedures.
• Counsel on employment and labor law, addressing sensitive workplace and personnel matters.
• Conduct and provide advice on workplace and internal investigations.
• Interpret and advise on the Collective Bargaining Agreement and related conflicts.
• Manage corporate litigation, employee-related disputes, arbitrations, and legal proceedings.
• Respond to subpoenas and coordinate with insurance carriers regarding claims.
• Engage and supervise external legal counsel as necessary.
• Review, draft, modify, and negotiate contracts and other agreements.
• Lead legal projects and initiatives across various departments.
• Design and deliver training for staff on pertinent legal topics.
• Monitor legislative, regulatory, and enforcement changes impacting employment and labor practices.
• Translate legal changes into strategic guidance.
• Mentor members of the Legal, Risk & Compliance team while supporting team education and resource management.
• Juris Doctor degree is required.
• An active California law license or eligibility for registered in-house counsel admission is mandatory.
• In-house registration necessitates residency in California.
• A minimum of 8–10 years of pertinent legal experience as a practicing attorney is required.
• Experience advising organizations on labor and employment laws, especially with union-represented workforces, is preferred.
• Extensive experience representing nonprofit and tax-exempt organizations is essential.
• Familiarity with nonprofit corporate law and federal tax-exemption regulations is advantageous.
• Experience in advising on employment and labor matters, litigation, and transactions is needed.
• Ability to manage confidential and sensitive issues with sound judgment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills are necessary.
• Capability to counsel executives and clarify legal concepts to individuals without legal backgrounds is important.
