Senior Combat Designer – Freelance

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Europe.

📋 Description

• Enhance and fine-tune the combat systems for the project.

• Conceptualize, prototype, implement, balance, and finalize enemy archetypes and bosses.

• Adjust animation durations, invincibility frames, hitboxes, and frame data.

• Design enemy behaviors in conjunction with RPG mechanics and game progression.

• Implement combat actions utilizing Behaviour Trees, Animation Graphs, and Blueprints within Unreal Engine.

• Supply Gameplay Programmers with essential technical specifications.

• Create basic combat level layouts to convey design intentions.

• Resolve bugs and gameplay challenges during the shipping process.

• Collaborate with teams in Character Art, Animation, VFX, Audio, Level Design, Art, and Production.

• Develop clear, concise, and visually-oriented design documentation.

• Evaluate project advancement through usability tests, focus groups, and internal playtests.

• Offer feedback and suggest improvements for current and future titles.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in Game Design.

• Proven experience as a Combat Designer for multiple years or in a similar capacity.

• Strong enthusiasm and knowledge of the Soulslike genre.

• Ideally, have successfully shipped at least one AAA title in a design role.

• Comprehensive understanding of gameplay mechanics, features, and contemporary game design.

• Familiarity with Unreal Engine and experience in creating Blueprints.

• Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and organizational abilities.

• A creative and open mindset with the capability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
