Senior Civil Site Grading Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Offer technical guidance and support for the Substation Design Team.

• Lead and manage civil site grading engineering and consulting services for clients throughout the US.

• Develop site grading design deliverables and evaluate drawing packages.

• Set engineering standards for the site grading department.

• Enhance engineering delivery through automation techniques.

• Assist with project bidding estimates, proposal preparation, and scope development.

• Prepare, direct, and aid in engineering deliverables for electric substation projects.

• Mentor and lead engineers and designers.

• Conduct civil design calculations and prepare specifications for earthwork, surfacing, drainage, and site work.

• Execute hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for site drainage, detention/retention, culverts, ditches, and floodplain management.

• Prepare permitting deliverables and address jurisdictional review feedback.

• Coordinate geotechnical, survey, topographic, and multidisciplinary design efforts.

• Serve as project lead or independent reviewer.

• Provide technical support to clients and assist in regional business development.

• Establish and enhance engineering standards, calculation templates, design criteria, drawing templates, review processes, and quality expectations.

• Develop and promote engineering processes, tools, technology, and design automation workflows.

• Offer leadership, training, and mentorship.

• Meet and communicate with clients, agencies, and external partners.

• Conduct quality reviews for engineers and designers.

• Perform field visits for site walkdowns, constructability assessments, construction support, and site meetings.

• Provide support during the construction phase, including RFI responses, submittal reviews, field change coordination, and record drawings.

• Collaborate with project management on project plans and updates.

• Support business development and marketing strategies.

• Engage in project conceptualization, work planning, execution, and participation in technical committees.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution or a related field with equivalent experience.

• Engineer IV: Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.

• Senior Engineer I: Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience and Professional Engineer (PE) license required.

• Senior Engineer II: Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience and PE required.

• Senior Engineer III: Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience and PE required.

• Professional Engineer licensure is highly preferred.

• Proficient in applicable codes and standards.

• Expertise in Autodesk Civil 3D for surface modeling, grading design, corridor and road modeling, pipe networks, earthwork volume calculations, and civil design outputs.

• Experience in substation civil/site design, including grading, earthwork, stormwater management, drainage, erosion and sediment control, roads, retaining walls, oil containment, site layout, and quantity takeoffs.

• Familiarity with preparing and reviewing civil design deliverables.

• Skilled in performing hydrologic and hydraulic analyses.

• Experience in preparing permitting deliverables, including NPDES/SWPPP and local grading and stormwater permits.

• Proven experience in coordinating with geotechnical engineers, survey teams, and other disciplines.

• Demonstrated enthusiasm for design automation, parametric modeling, scripting, data-driven quality checks, or optimizing workflows.

• Strong organizational skills for managing multiple complex assignments and competing priorities.

• Ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional teams.

• Excellent analytical and decision-making abilities.

• Proven success in maintaining positive client relationships.

• Competence in leading staff, delegating tasks, and driving positive outcomes.

• Experience in creating and reviewing site grading design drawings.

• Ability to work effectively with team members located remotely.

• Must be able to pass a post-offer drug and alcohol screening, including marijuana, and participate in random testing.
