Senior Carbon Scientist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Oversee agronomic research and conduct scientific analyses.

• Assist with greenhouse gas accounting, modeling, research and execution of regenerative agriculture practices, as well as provide technical support to the Sales and Grower Success Team.

• Deliver cross-functional agronomic assistance across Science, Data, Modeling, Carbon, Grower Success, and Commercial teams.

• Convert research findings into program guidelines, ongoing enhancements, and scalable practice recommendations.

• Utilize expertise in range and pasture management for program development, practice guidelines, field execution, modeling, and carbon results.

• Assess new agronomic practices, technologies, and systems to create innovative practice offerings.

• Spearhead the evaluation and enhancement of agronomic practice guidelines by utilizing scientific evidence, field performance metrics, and modeling insights.

• Oversee the quality, completeness, and consistency of practice-level data in collaboration with the Grower Success Team.

• Provide technical leadership, mentorship, training, field visits, and educational resources to the Grower Success Team.

• Convert field-level agronomic data into dependable model inputs and enhance alignment between practice execution and modeled outcomes.

• Collaborate with the Carbon team to analyze and address findings from Validation and Verification Body and Verra.

• Disseminate advancements in regenerative agriculture science and technology throughout the organization.

• Integrate agronomic science with data analytics, visualization, and reporting.

• Articulate agronomic and sustainability concepts to farmers, ranchers, and industry stakeholders.

• Participate in agronomy and regenerative agriculture conferences.

• Lead scientific reviews, reports, and white papers based on project results.

⛳️ Requirements

• M.S. or Ph.D. in Soil Science, Rangeland Management, Environmental Science, or a related discipline; equivalent experience may be considered.

• Over 5 years of relevant experience in agronomy, regenerative agriculture, agricultural research, soil health, carbon programs, or a similar field.

• Proven ability to lead technical projects and work collaboratively across functions.

• Significant experience in range and pasture management, including grazing systems, forage management, soil health, and regenerative grazing.

• Familiarity with agricultural carbon markets, GHG accounting, carbon sequestration, and carbon-credit methodologies.

• Experience with Verra VCS and VVB processes is highly preferred.

• Strong background in applied agronomic research, experimental design, data analysis, scientific interpretation, and converting research into actionable field and program recommendations.

• Experience handling agricultural or carbon datasets and models, with the ability to translate field-level data into trustworthy model inputs and insights.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the capability to convey complex scientific concepts into practical guidance.

• Ability to stay updated with regenerative agriculture and carbon science and represent the organization through technical reports, conferences, presentations, and external interactions.

• Approximately 20–30% travel is necessary.
