Senior C++ Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Oklahoma.

📋 Description

• Evaluate the current MRMS Hydromet/QPE codebase.

• Formulate recommendations and strategies for the upcoming VCP-Agnostic version of MRMS.

• Provide advice on and, when necessary, revise existing C++ code.

• Contribute new code to enhance the MRMS Hydromet/QPE processing software suite.

• Offer expert technical guidance on software design, coding methodologies, and technical risks.

• Deliver technical documentation, which includes schematics, code repositories, and test reports.

• Prepare quarterly status updates.

• Support MRMS, a National Weather Service operational product aimed at precipitation estimation.

• Engage in field data collection activities during active severe weather events as necessary.

⛳️ Requirements

• BA/BS in a technical or business-related field.

• Over 4 years of professional and/or academic experience.

• Proficiency in C++ is required.

• Knowledge of Perl, Python, and Bash is preferred.

• Experience in software development utilizing Git.

• Capability to advise technical teams on software architecture, coding strategies, and development risks.

• Strong technical writing skills.

• Ability to collaborate effectively as part of a technical team.

• Familiarity with meteorological datasets, including outputs from weather radar systems, is preferred.

• Must complete an online IT security awareness course within one week of employment.

• Foreign national applicants are subject to export control review and require CO/COR approval prior to consideration.

• Availability to work Monday through Friday, from 8 AM CST to 5 PM CST.

• Willingness to accommodate irregular hours during active severe weather events if required for field data collection.

• Ability to travel locally and non-locally, although it is not expected to exceed 5% annually.
