This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Romania.
• Develop functional and design specifications for system software aimed at managing hardware components.
• Proactively implement solutions for minor issues within the system software utilizing C, C++, and Python programming languages.
• Create test plan specifications for small-scale features and develop automated testing programs to execute the outlined test cases.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues identified by our automated testing programs.
• Collaborate with a team to implement, test, and debug solutions for larger routing protocol challenges.
• Partner with Customer Support Engineers to assess issues within customer networks and provide resolutions in the form of software releases or patches as necessary.
• Collaborate with System Test Engineers to investigate issues uncovered during their testing and offer solutions.
• Mentor new and junior engineers, helping them acclimate to Arista’s software development environment and the broader SONiC development ecosystem.
• Review and contribute to specifications and implementations crafted by other team members and the SONiC community.
• Assist in creating a schedule for implementation and debugging tasks, updating that schedule weekly, and reporting it to the project lead.
• Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering with a minimum of 2 years of relevant post-graduate work experience.
• Proficient in C, C++, and/or Python.
• Familiarity with UNIX or Linux operating systems.
• Understanding of L2/L3 networking, with knowledge in at least one of the following areas: IP routing protocols, including RIP, OSPF, BGP, IS-IS, or PIM.
• Knowledge of Layer 2 features such as 802.1d bridging, the 802.1d Spanning Tree Protocol, the 802.1ax Link Aggregation Control Protocol, the 802.1AB Link Layer Discovery Protocol, or RFC 1812 IP routing.
• Capability to utilize, test, and debug packet forwarding engines and vendor-provided software libraries related to hardware components in your solutions.
• Experience with infrastructure functions pertinent to distributed systems like messaging, signaling, databases, and command line interface techniques.
• Hands-on experience in designing and developing software related to Ethernet bridging or routing, or distributed systems is preferred.
• Practical experience with enterprise or service provider class Ethernet switch/router system software development, or substantial PhD-level research in network routing and packet forwarding is advantageous.
• Applied knowledge of software engineering principles.
• Excellent problem-solving and software troubleshooting abilities.
• Proficient in designing solutions for small-scale problems and implementing those solutions independently.
• Capable of working within a small team to address medium-sized problems with limited supervision.
