This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Romania.
• Become a part of Arista Networks' SONiC software development team.
• Develop and validate features for extensive data center networks.
• Create and deliver SONiC software specifically for Arista switches.
• Collaborate with fellow engineers and marketing to collect functional and technical requirements.
• Compose functional specifications, design documents, test plans, and implementation code.
• Engage with the SONiC community to contribute code and test modifications.
• Partner with customers to diagnose and resolve network issues via software updates or patches.
• Design, oversee, troubleshoot, and sustain automated software testing processes.
• Take ownership of projects from inception to deployment, ensuring delivery quality.
• Implement system-software solutions using programming languages such as C, C++, and Python.
• Collaborate on routing-protocol solutions within a team setting.
• Evaluate system-test problems and provide appropriate solutions.
• Guide and mentor new and junior engineers.
• Review and contribute to specifications and implementations from team members and the SONiC community.
• Develop and maintain implementation and debugging timelines, providing weekly updates to the project lead.
• Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering.
• A minimum of 2 years of relevant postgraduate professional experience.
• Proficient in C, C++, and/or Python.
• Familiarity with UNIX or Linux operating systems.
• Understanding of L2/L3 networking concepts.
• Knowledge of IP routing protocols such as RIP, OSPF, BGP, IS-IS, or PIM is preferred.
• Awareness of Layer 2 features like 802.1d bridging, Spanning Tree Protocol, Link Aggregation Control Protocol, Link Layer Discovery Protocol, or RFC 1812 IP routing is advantageous.
• Capability to utilize, test, and debug packet forwarding engines along with vendor-supplied hardware component software libraries.
• Understanding of distributed-systems infrastructure roles, including messaging, signaling, databases, and command-line interface techniques.
• Practical experience in designing and developing Ethernet bridging, routing-related, or distributed-systems software is a plus.
• Hands-on experience with enterprise or service-provider Ethernet switch/router system software development, or substantial PhD-level research in network routing and packet forwarding, is desirable.
• Practical knowledge of software engineering principles.
• Excellent problem-solving and software troubleshooting abilities.
• Capability to independently design and implement solutions for smaller problems.
• Ability to collaborate within a small team to address medium-sized issues with minimal supervision.
