Senior C++ Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Romania.

📋 Description

• Become a part of Arista Networks' Software for Open Networking in the Cloud (SONiC) software development team.

• Design and validate features for extensive data center networks.

• Create and deploy SONiC software for Arista switches.

• Collaborate with engineers and marketing to gather and comprehend functional and technical requirements.

• Draft functional specifications, design specifications, test plans, and production code.

• Engage with the SONiC community to contribute code and test modifications.

• Diagnose and resolve issues within customer networks.

• Create automated tests, oversee their execution, and troubleshoot any identified issues.

• Lead projects from inception to deployment while ensuring quality delivery.

• Develop system-software specifications for hardware component management.

• Implement solutions using C, C++, and Python.

• Work on routing-protocol solutions, including testing and troubleshooting.

• Partner with Customer Support Engineers and System Test Engineers to evaluate problems and provide solutions.

• Mentor new and junior engineers.

• Review and contribute to the specifications and implementations from team members and the SONiC community.

• Establish and maintain schedules for implementation and debugging, reporting weekly to the project lead.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering.

• Over 2 years of relevant postgraduate work experience.

• Proficiency in C, C++, and/or Python.

• Familiarity with UNIX or Linux operating systems.

• Understanding of L2/L3 networking concepts.

• Knowledge of IP routing protocols such as RIP, OSPF, BGP, IS-IS, or PIM is a plus.

• Familiarity with Layer 2 features such as bridging, Spanning Tree Protocol, Link Aggregation Control Protocol, Link Layer Discovery Protocol, or RFC 1812 IP routing is advantageous.

• Ability to utilize, test, and debug packet forwarding engines and hardware-component software libraries provided by vendors.

• Knowledge of infrastructure functions in distributed systems, including messaging, signaling, databases, and command-line interface techniques.

• Hands-on experience with Ethernet bridging, routing-related software, or distributed systems software is preferable.

• Practical experience in enterprise or service provider Ethernet switch/router system software development, or significant PhD-level research in network routing and packet forwarding, is desirable.

• Applied understanding of software engineering principles.

• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills for software-related issues.

• Capability to design and independently implement solutions for smaller problems.

• Ability to collaborate within a small team to address medium-sized challenges with minimal supervision.
