Senior Business Systems Analyst – Data Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Lead engagements with stakeholders to comprehend mission objectives, operational hurdles, current workflows, and future requirements.

• Document business requirements, functional specifications, user stories, acceptance criteria, and process flows.

• Analyze sustainment, logistics, maintenance, supply, and readiness processes to uncover gaps, inefficiencies, risks, and opportunities for improvement.

• Convert mission and operational needs into system, reporting, and data requirements for technical teams.

• Assist in prioritizing, defining scope, and analyzing the impact of system enhancements, integrations, and process modifications.

• Collaborate with product, operations, architecture, data science, and engineering teams to outline solution options and suggest strategies.

• Map processes, handoffs, and system interactions within sustainment workflows.

• Identify business rules, decision points, exceptions, and downstream effects.

• Aid in designing integrations, workflow automation, and operational reporting capabilities.

• Work alongside data engineers and developers on data mapping, ETL/ELT design, validation, and reporting requirements.

• Write and enhance SQL queries for analysis, troubleshooting, and data validation.

• Define business logic, metrics, and data definitions for dashboards and reports.

• Assist with the integration of enterprise and mission-support systems.

• Define and support UAT scenarios, test cases, and business validation criteria.

• Validate delivered solutions against mission and operational needs.

• Maintain requirements, process maps, data dictionaries, traceability matrices, SOPs, and runbooks.

• Facilitate stakeholder communication, change management, training, and adoption.

• Support data standards, controls, and process uniformity.

• Identify and communicate risks, dependencies, and issues.

• Lead or assist in cross-functional workstreams and serve as a liaison between mission users and technical teams.

• Mentor junior team members and promote consistent business analysis and documentation practices.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience as a Business Systems Analyst.

• Strong background in business systems analysis, requirements gathering, and process documentation.

• Experience in mapping both current-state and future-state workflows.

• Ability to convert mission or operational needs into functional and technical requirements.

• Experience in supporting UAT, issue triage, and implementation readiness.

• Strong stakeholder management capabilities in cross-functional settings.

• Advanced SQL skills for analysis, validation, and troubleshooting.

• Familiarity with BI tools such as Tableau, Power BI, Looker, or Qlik.

• Working knowledge of ETL/ELT concepts, data modeling, and data quality practices.

• Experience with cloud data platforms like Snowflake, Redshift, Splunk, AWS, Databricks, Azure Synapse, etc.

• Familiarity with APIs, middleware, and enterprise system integrations.

• Experience using Jira, Confluence, Git, and Agile delivery methods.

• Must agree to the Canadian Government Controlled Goods Program (CGP) assessment.

• Must not present a risk to the safeguarding of controlled goods.

• Must have legal authorization to work in Canada.

• Must be eligible for Secret Level II security clearance.

• Must be eligible to manage U.S. export-controlled data.

• Experience supporting military, defense, sustainment, logistics, maintenance, or readiness-focused programs is preferred.

• Experience in government or contractor environments assisting digital transformation is preferred.

• Experience in a senior or lead business systems analyst position is preferred.

• Experience mentoring analysts or contributing to establishing business analysis standards and practices is preferred.

• Strong communication skills across mission, business, and technical audiences.

• Analytical thinking, attention to detail, and robust problem-solving abilities.

• Capability to manage multiple priorities and deliver independently.

• Strong sense of ownership, accountability, and follow-through.

• Collaborative mindset with the ability to influence without authority.

• Must pass the Company’s Conflict of Interest (COI) assessment process.

• Must be able to obtain and maintain Secret Level II security clearance.
