Senior Backend Software Engineer – Technical Lead, Public Sector

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +4 more states.

📋 Description

• Design and implement production-quality REST APIs and backend services.

• Integrate services with a variety of existing systems and external data sources.

• Convert intricate business and policy rules into maintainable application logic.

• Create SQL data models and integration patterns.

• Define API contracts, including versioning, error handling, retry mechanisms, and resiliency strategies.

• Execute automated unit, integration, end-to-end, and load testing.

• Set up monitoring, logging, alerting, and observability for production environments.

• Enhance API performance and reliability under production conditions.

• Apply security measures for sensitive Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and/or Protected Health Information (PHI).

• Develop and sustain CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code.

• Engage in troubleshooting and incident response for production issues.

• Create API specifications, architecture diagrams, runbooks, and technical documentation.

• Conduct code reviews and offer technical mentorship to fellow engineers.

• Collaborate with product, design, policy, and external technical teams.


⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of professional software engineering experience.

• Proven experience in architecting and managing production backend APIs.

• Strong preference for backend development experience in Python; similar experience in Java, C#/.NET, TypeScript/Node.js, Go, or related technologies will also be considered.

• Practical experience in deploying and managing backend services on AWS.

• Strong expertise in RESTful API design and systems integration.

• Experience with integrating multiple systems, vendors, or external data sources.

• Solid background in SQL and relational databases.

• Experience with automated unit, integration, and end-to-end testing.

• Familiarity with performance/load testing and optimization of production performance.

• Hands-on experience with monitoring, logging, alerting, and responding to production incidents.

• Proficient in CI/CD, Git, and contemporary software development practices.

• Experience in implementing security measures for sensitive or regulated data.

• Capability to articulate architecture and technical decisions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, information systems, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

• Ability to provide a code sample or Git repository showcasing relevant work.

• Availability during Eastern Time business hours.

• Must reside in the United States.
