Senior Backend Engineer, Identity & Access Management

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of LaunchDarkly’s authentication landscape from start to finish, which includes single sign-on, SCIM provisioning, login and session flows, multi-factor authentication, as well as API key and token authentication.

• Develop enterprise identity functionalities, encompassing additional identity-provider integrations, multiple IdPs per account, and mandatory MFA enforcement.

• Ensure the identity framework is operational through service-level objectives (SLOs), monitoring, actionable alerts, runbooks, and maintainable on-call support.

• Collaborate with Product Security on threat modeling, audit logging, and compliance requirements for SOC 2 and FedRAMP.

• Define the technical vision for identity management at LaunchDarkly.

• Enhance engineering standards through design reviews and mentoring.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 6 years of professional software engineering experience, with substantial involvement in complex backend applications.

• Proven experience in building or managing production authentication and identity systems.

• A history of working with systems where correctness and availability are critical.

• Experience with backward-compatible modifications, staged deployments, and safe transitions.

• Proficient in at least one backend programming language, such as Go, Rust, or Python.

• Knowledge of cloud infrastructure, like AWS or similar platforms.

• Strong ownership of production systems, including on-call responsibilities.

• Bonus: In-depth knowledge of protocols such as SAML, OIDC/OAuth2, or SCIM.

• Bonus: Experience with integrations involving Okta, Microsoft Entra ID, Google Workspace, OneLogin, or Ping.

• Bonus: Familiarity with MFA/WebAuthn, RBAC, authorization policy engines, or audit logging at a multi-tenant scale.

• Bonus: Engineering experience within compliance frameworks such as SOC 2 or FedRAMP.
