Senior Backend Engineer, Flag Delivery

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Design, construct, and manage distributed systems that provide feature-flag configurations to LaunchDarkly SDKs.

• Take ownership of enhancing reliability, latency, and scalability within streaming and polling infrastructures.

• Troubleshoot and resolve intricate production issues while being part of the on-call rotation.

• Collaborate with SDK, Core Product, and Data Platform teams to ensure effective flag delivery to customers.

• Produce maintainable, well-tested code and engage in code reviews, design evaluations, and discussions about production readiness.

• Influence architectural choices while balancing performance, cost, and operability.

• Enhance observability, deployment safety, and operational workflows for Flag Delivery.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 6 years of professional experience in backend engineering.

• Extensive experience with distributed or high-throughput production systems.

• Proven track record in designing, building, operating, and troubleshooting reliable, low-latency services.

• Experience in production ownership, including on-call responsibilities with a focus on reliability and observability.

• Proficient in at least one backend programming language: Go, Rust, or Python.

• Familiarity with AWS or a comparable cloud platform.

• Practical experience with infrastructure-as-code tools, such as Terraform or similar.

• Experience with observability tools like Datadog, Prometheus, or New Relic.

• Strong understanding of distributed systems principles, including concurrency, partitioning, retries, idempotency, backpressure, and failure management.

• Ability to produce clean, maintainable code and collaborate on technical design efforts.

• Excellent communication skills and a commitment to high standards of operational excellence.
